Laingsburg is a sleepy northern suburb of Lansing. Situated between I-69 and Highway 127, this town is accessible for anyone coming from the direction of Flint, Grand Rapids or simply from Lansing itself.

Named after Peter Laing, who operated one of the first taverns in the area, Laingsburg, MI, was established during the early 19th century. The town remained a relatively small farming community until 1860 when the Jackson, Lansing and Northern Railroad arrived in the area. The town continued to steadily grow until Laingsburg was officially named as a city in 1951.

Many people choose to rent an RV in Laingsburg and use it as a base to explore the surrounding lakes, nature reserves, and local parks. Others simply rent a motorhome in Laingsburg to wander down its historic roads, fascinating museums and through its abundance of maple trees.

Discover Laingsburg

The Great Outdoors

Camper rental in Laingsburg has become extremely popular amongst water lovers due to its central location between several man-made and natural lakes. Scenic Lake is the most popular man-made lake in the area, although its beauty will have you fooled that this is all natural. Instead, go to Round Lake if you prefer your lakes of the natural kind. Both small lakes offer similar recreational activities such as fishing, boating, or simply relaxing on the beaches. For the fishing enthusiasts, Round Lake is your best chance to catch sunfish, bass or pike!

Lake Ovid, a man-made lake, can be found in Sleepy Hollow State Park. This is just ten minutes up the road from Laingsburg and easily accessible in your Michigan RV rental. There is much more to this park than the beautiful Lake Ovid, tucked right into its core. Stretching across 2,600 acres, this state park consists of dense woods, open meadows, meandering rivers, and winding trails. With over sixteen miles of hiking or biking paths and a further six miles of paths for horseback riding, there are unlimited ways to discover this stunning park. This is also a must-visit for any avid bird watchers with an RV rental! With over 228 different species of bird being sited here, including the bald eagle, you are guaranteed to tick something new off the list.

For even more opportunities for wildlife spotting, visit Rose Lake State Wildlife Recreation Area. This reserve covers over 4,000 acres of untouched woodland, marshes, ponds, and shrubs all designed to encourage a healthy microcosm of wildlife. The park is best explored on foot, however, if you wish to cover more distance, why not hire a bike from the visitor’s office and make a day of it!

RV Parks

When it comes to parking your RV rental from Laingsburg, you will have no problem finding a site that caters to your needs!

For those that prefer finding a spot among nature, consider setting up camp in Sleepy Hollow State Park. Although the campground is hidden underneath a canopy of trees, the facilities on offer are far from primitive. With a collection of over 100 modern campsites, many of which have electric hookups, as well as modern washroom facilities, you are guaranteed a comfortable stay. Better still, for horse riding enthusiasts with a Laingsburg motorhome rental, this campground has one of the biggest equestrian camping areas in Michigan!

If Sleepy Hollow State Park campground is full, consider camping closer to Owosso. One of the most popular campgrounds in the area is Campground R US. This family-run RV Park has a plethora of spacious pitches that can accommodate rigs of all sizes.

Exploring the City

Laingsburg is a city that is best explored for its outdoor opportunities. For those that would like to explore some cultural indoor attractions, head down the road to Owosso.

The Steam Railroading Institute is one of the most informative museums in the area and aims to educate the public about the steam-railroading era in Michigan.

As well as an in-depth display showing how the railroad industry has changed and adapted in Michigan through the years, visitors also have the chance to take a ride on the heritage railroad. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the historical journey on one of the preserved and restored excursion steam locomotives.

Another feature unique to Owosso and well worth a visit for those that have chosen to rent an RV here, is the Curwood Castle Museum. This beautiful castle tells a fascinating story of James Oliver Curwood, a writer who lived here during the 19th century. The castle is in such a beautiful setting that it is easy to understand why Curwood was often inspired to write about wildlife. Although many haven’t heard of him today, his books were some of the most popular in North America during the early 20th century and were even made into movies. The minimal entry fee is well worth it to discover a unique piece of Michigan’s history.

Next door to the castle, is the Shiawassee Arts Council Museum. This small art gallery was established to promote and encourage local artist’s creativity. As well as housing some local artist’s work, there are also regular exhibitions by talented international artists. The venue also regularly holds a series of lectures and workshops for both adults and children. However, these have become very popular, so it is worth calling ahead to secure a spot!
