If you’re looking for a great outdoor experience and the chance to experience some of the pleasures of small-town life, renting an RV in Cadillac could make for a great vacation. While most of the attractions around are within just a few miles of the downtown area, if you want to get out into the forest and really immerse yourself in nature, you’ll appreciate the freedom that comes with a Cadillac RV rental.

RV Parks near Cadillac

Fortunately for those who book an RV in Cadillac, there are a number of RV parks within close proximity to the center of town. In addition to those dedicated parks, there are also a few state parks with RV hookups that are available to travelers that would like to camp in a more rustic setting.

Birchwood Resort is only a few miles from town, on the western tip of Lake Cadillac. Sites have water, electrical and sewer hookups and there are great canoeing and fishing opportunities on the lake. Nearby is the 334-acre Mitchell State Park, which has dozens of RV sites with electrical and water hookups along with a dump station. The park has a few miles of hiking trails between Cadillac Lake and Lake Mitchell and designated swimming areas in each of them. Camp Cadillac, five miles northeast of town, is another option for the RV rental near Cadillac and has a swimming pool to make up for being located further away from the lakes.

Another possibility is Coolwater Campground, half an hour to the west of Cadillac. While it’s farther from the amenities of town, it’s surrounded by the beautiful Manistee National Forest which has dozens of miles of trail to explore on foot or by mountain bike. Kayak and bike rentals are available nearby, making this the perfect place to camp with your Cadillac rental motorhome if you intend to do lots of outdoor activities.

The nearest Walmart is a few miles north of the city, right off Highway 131. If you don’t feel like venturing far from the lake though, there are a couple grocery stores around the eastern tip of Cadillac Lake.

Exploring the City of Cadillac

Given Cadillac’s small size and the natural beauty of its surroundings, most of the activities you’ll want to do in the area will be outside. However, everyone needs an occasional break from nature and some time back in civilization.

The Wexford County Historical Museum may not look like much from the outside, and it is quite small, but what you’ll find inside is a treasure trove of interesting facts about this little town that you can really get up close and personal with. Tour guides are happy to take you through the exhibits and give a vivid account of the goings on in Cadillac throughout the ages.

Cadillac is definitely no shopper’s mecca, but it has enough stores that you can pick up whatever you need during your Cadillac, MI RV rental trip along with some interesting souvenirs to take home. The north end of Mitchell Street is where most of the big box stores are located. The downtown area, towards the southern end of Mitchell Street, has some interesting boutiques, selling everything from handmade toys to used books to vintage clothing.

For a bite to eat, head to the Clambake Beer Company, which has pizzas and over forty craft beers on tap. For healthier dishes, check out the Blue Heron Bakery and Cafe; it’s a perennial favorite among vegetarians and diners that require gluten-free dishes.

Getting Outside near Cadillac

With so many great opportunities for spending time in nature, this is probably the reason most people choose to rent an RV in Cadillac, MI. The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail is a 92-mile long rail trail that extends from Cadillac to Grand Rapids. If you’re a cyclist, you will not want to miss this one, especially during the autumn months when the leaves are changing and the forest is bursting with color.

To get out on the water, head to Beach Watersports, Inc. They have stand up paddleboard, pontoon boats, and floating trampoline rentals to use on Cadillac Lake or Lake Mitchell.

If you’re bringing the kids along for the trip, you might want to visit Adventure Island, just off Highway 115. They’ve got batting cages, water slides, and miniature golf; it’s a fun way to spend a summer afternoon after so many hours on the road.

If you’re up for an off-the-beaten-path adventure, Isle Royale National Park is about 7.5 hours and short ferry ride from Cadillac. While that may not seem like a nearby destination, Isle Royale and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are incredibly remote and few towns are particularly close by. Due to its remote nature, Isle Royale is one of the least-visited national parks in the country and you’re sure to find some privacy there. There are no roads on the island, so leave your Cadillac travel trailer rental parked back on the mainland and enjoy watching the abundant wildlife while relaxing on the stunning beaches looking out on Lake Superior.
