Although the town of Buchanan can be found in southern Michigan, it is considered a suburb of South Bend, Indiana near the state line. This fantastic little town was named for the 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan, and is commonly called the “Redbud City” for its many gorgeous redbud trees. Buchanan was platted in 1842 and later incorporated in 1858. Although once the headquarters for a few major companies, the area has since diversified and relied on locally owned businesses to power the economy since some of the factories vacated the area.

The splendid scenery in and around Buchanan is among one of its best features, with lots of botanical gardens and nature preserves exemplifying these qualities. The shores of Lake Michigan are not very far so when you book an RV in Buchanan, you have the freedom to tailor your vacation to what you want to see and do. Kalamazoo and Chicago are only about an hour’s drive away so the possibilities are endless when you rent an RV in Buchanan.

The nearby city of Niles is home to the Fort St. Joseph Museum where lots of local history is on display. The area is historically significant with regards to the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War, as well as the indigenous people that lived around Southern Michigan hundreds of years before the arrival of European settlers.
