Brown City is a community in Sanilac County, Michigan, that was created in 1879, incorporated the first time as a village in 1887 and later as a city in 1907. The city is renowned as the location of an 1876 mansion that is reputed to be haunted. It is designed in the style of Victorian-era architecture with a mahogany staircase, wood trim, moldings, and flooring, all of which are original. It has had several owners. Sanilac County is only slightly older than Brown City, having been established in 1822, and is heavily reliant on tourism as a primary source of its economy.

Book an RV in Sanilac County, and you will be one step closer to a vacation you will never forget. While you are here, take some time to check out a few other destinations. Kingston has an old train depot building which is one of their historical landmarks. Port Sanilac has a designated underwater preserve that hosts many shipwrecks and is very popular with scuba divers. Marysville is a distinct city with winding rather than grid-like roads and a boardwalk that looks across a river into Corunna, Ontario, Canada. Imlay City began installing trolley streetcar lines in 1914, a form of transportation previously only found in larger cities. Lapeer is a misspelling of the words “La Pierre,” a French word meaning “the rock” (a reference to Flint, Michigan). Your Brown City travel trailer rental is your invitation to experience this world in the way only an RV can.

The Great Outdoors

Sanilac Petroglyphs Historic State Park is a family and pet-friendly historical site that is open to the public during daylight hours on weekends and certain weekdays (contact the park for more specific opening days and hours). The petroglyphs or carvings are thought to be between 300 and 1,200 years old; they were found after a fire in the area burnt away the brush and vegetation, revealing the rock formations underneath. Visitors will require a Michigan State Parks Recreation Passport to enter the park.

Vassar State Game Area is a protected upland habitat area providing refuge for white-tailed deer and other wildlife species. It is open to the public for recreational use but commercial uses, such as selective logging, are not permitted within the park. Visitors may use the park for bird and wildlife observation, canoeing and kayaking, and trapping and hunting in the appropriate seasons.

Head to the Genesee Recreation Area with the Brown City campervan rental, and you can enjoy this popular destination, excellent for walking and wildlife viewing. The trails are not difficult or long but do lead to a scenic waterfall. There is an active railroad that takes guests for a trip through the park and an arboretum, or visitors can relax by the lakeshore on one of the many park benches. The park is home to bald eagles who nest in the trees and can be spotted overhead.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in the area around Brown City, and some of them may have mobile homes. Your Brown City RV rental is your guarantee of a perfect vacation in scenic surroundings.

Lexington RV Resort is an RV-only park (no tent camping) that rents sites by the day, week, month, or season. The park has access to Lake Huron for swimming, plus an on-site heated swimming pool. There is a clubhouse with a kitchen and other facilities, wheelchair-accessible restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and individual sites have full hookups. Some sites may be privately owned or occupied by long-term guests.

Exploring The City

A Brown City motorhome rental vacation is the perfect time to learn about agriculture; there is a non-commercialized orchard where guests can get their hands dirty (if they wish) or simply indulge in the products being offered for sale. Visitors can choose from the cider, donut, and baked products, or browse through a gift shop with all sorts of handicrafts. Guests may even wander out into the fields and pick their own products if they choose to. There is also an animal sanctuary that visitors can check out; it is run by volunteers and takes in animals that might otherwise have been euthanized. The sanctuary is non-profit, and all proceeds go to the care of the resident animals. Tours are by appointment only so guests should call ahead before visiting.

When your stomach begins to remind you that it is dinnertime, Brown City has exactly what you're looking for. Prices are reasonable, and most of the venues are locally owned and operated. One local diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has an extensive menu with salads, sandwiches, and main course items. Guests eating here should try the smoked brisket mac and cheese. Those needing more space for dining can order takeout and head back to their Brown City luxury RV rental to enjoy a delicious meal under an open Michigan sky.
