Bay City, Michigan is situated near Lake Huron and forms the Greater Tri-Cities Region in the state with nearby cities Midland and Saginaw. The city was settled by pioneers during the 1800s and was known for its lumber mills and shipbuilding industries.

Exploring the City

Bay City is home to and near plenty of unique attractions for you to explore. Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum is one option to consider. This museum is situated inside the massive destroyer USS Edson. Step inside the ship to learn more about the ship itself and the history of the U.S. Navy. However, keep in mind that sometimes reservations are needed in order to enter.

Because Bay City is known for its historic homes head over to its Center Avenue Historic District. This neighborhood was built in the mid-1800s and once housed many prominent shipbuilders and industrialists. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1892, you can take a walking tour of the neighborhood to view a variety of different architectural styles, such as Gothic Revival, Italianate, and Tudor Revival.

Another place to drive your motorhome rental from Bay City over to is Bay Antique Center. This building was built back in the late 1800s and was once home to a hardware store. Today, the shop is one of the largest antique centers in Michigan.

If time permits, take a short trip to the Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum. This museum is home to over 12,000 antique toys for your viewing pleasure. You’ll also find 60 different types of fire trucks. Inside, there’s also a NASCAR-themed room which contains numerous NASCAR artifacts, such as tickets and car models. The museum also occasionally hosts toy sales throughout the year where you can find some vintage items to buy.

This city is also home to a huge collection of restaurants, such as Polish eateries and seafood houses. Many also are situated near the water giving you beautiful views while you dine.
