For a great summer day on the beach, without the crowds and hassle of a long drive to the ocean, check out Marlborough’s World War II Memorial Beach. With 13 acres of fun, this great park is located on the east side of the city. Open daily for swimming during the summer, there are grassy as well as sandy areas to enjoy, planted among large shade trees. Amenities also include bathrooms, picnic and grilling areas, and parking for your Marlborough camper rental.

One of the prettiest spots in the state and a very short trek in your Marlborough rental RV is the Assabet River Rail Trail. This wonderful pathway is almost six miles long and weaves throughout the city of Marlborough and nearby Hudson, MA. This lovely nature corridor crosses the Assabet River five times, including over a historic, refurbished wrought-iron railway bridge. Perfect for year-round fun, here you can walk, bike and cross-country ski. It is also wheelchair and stroller accessible.

When you rent an RV in Marlborough, make sure to check out the pretty Ghiloni Nature Trail, part of the 125-acre Ghiloni Park which has other woodland trails and a really nice self-guided nature walk. Main entrances to the park and trail system can be found off of Concord Road, or Hemenway Street. Stop by the recreation office to pick up an interesting and informative brochure that will guide through the trail, and teach you about the plants and animals of the area, as well as local culture and history.

For a truly unique experience, visit the Memorial Forest Reservation, often referred to as “The Desert”. This natural area is in East Marlborough and is named for its desert-like sandy soil and historic sand pits. The conservation land consists of over 600 acres, and also boasts a pretty pine and scrub forest, plenty of wildlife, including birds and beaver habitats. Hunting is available in this area, though a permit is required.

For a truly wild experience, drive a few miles northeast in your Marlborough motorhome rental to the Marlborough-Sudbury State Park. Here you’ll find beautiful, protected wetlands, along with forested areas and vernal pools. Wildlife shares the trails with people, and misty afternoons in the spring and fall give this park a serene feeling. The main pond has a wonderful trail that is accessible to hikers of all abilities, including children. Most trails are paved, but there are also several nicely maintained unpaved paths that wander through the woods.

City Sites

Marlborough provides visitors with a wide variety of traveling amenities like hotels, shopping, sports facilities, green spaces, may bike trails, ponds, creeks, and beaches. The mall, along with several big-name stores and large plazas makes shopping a breeze, and fun.

Kids of all ages will love the Southwick’s Zoo, in nearby Mendon, MA. This is a wonderful family-operated zoo offering local residents and visitors 300+ acres of informative fun. Make sure to catch the bird show, and children love the tram-train that runs through the forest and visits many of the animals. The sky ride is another special treat, and the butterfly exhibit is a crowd favorite. You’ll also meet kangaroos, monkeys, deer, and farm animals in the petting zoo. Zoo guides are helpful, and the animals are very well taken care of. There’s plenty of parking for the Marlborough rental camper, as well as picnic areas so you can pack your own lunch, or enjoy the eateries in the zoo.

One of the most unique museums you’ll ever come across is in Clinton, MA. Here you can visit the Museum of Russian Icons. This museum is independent of any religious organization, and provides a very interesting, and sometimes moving, experience as you learn about the fascinating history and artistry of Russian icons.

Since you’re so close to Boston and Cambridge, you may want to head in to explore these two fascinating cities. Although driving is tricky in Boston, and parking might be an issue if you have a large rig, consider Park and Ride options, and take advantage of Boston’s public transportation system. Highlights of these cities include the remarkable Freedom Trail Walk with takes you to several notable historic sites including the Old South Meeting House and the site of the Boston Massacre. The New England Aquarium is another favorite spot, as well as the beautiful Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the smaller Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. A favorite spot for locals and visitors alike is the Boston Common, a wonderful green space in the center of town that dates back to 1634.

Where to Park It

There are quite a few places to set up camp with the motorhome rental near Marlborough. You’ll find a few private RV parks near the city, and if you expand your search out about 10 miles, you’ll find more options, including full amenity parks with hookups for water, sewer and electric. Many of these parks also offer laundry facilities, restrooms, hot showers, camp stores, and clubhouses, as well as swimming pools. Just north of Boston are a few camgrounds right near the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, including near the stunning Sandy Point State Reservation. You’ll also find camping sites farther out near the White Mountains in New Hampshire. There are Walmart Supercenters throughout the area, with one of the nearest being in Hudson, MA. Some permit overnight parking, just check with the front desk prior to your stay.

Food

From upscale eateries to casual dining and charming coffee shops, Marlborough boasts more than dozens of dining options, serving up a wide variety of cuisines. The nearby Boston area offers even more variety including a multitude of international flavors rivaling cities much larger in size. Farmers markets are popular in the area, with a local favorite being the Marlborough Summer Farmers Market, every Tuesday afternoon at Union Common.
