Prince Frederick is the county seat of Calvert County; it is an unincorporated community and is 3.67 square miles in size. It has been the county seat of Calvert County since 1722 and saw action in the War of 1812, when the British battled American forces at St. Leonard's Creek (south of Prince Frederick) while at the same time destroying the nearby area and burning Prince Frederick. The city was almost completely destroyed by fire a second time in 1882.

Today Prince Frederick is the retail and commercial center of Calvert County, and where most people from outlying areas come to do their shopping. Book an RV in Prince Frederick and you are one step closer to experiencing this contemporary and historical area. Other nearby towns and cities worth considering traveling to are Huntingtown, Dunkirk, Lusby, Hughesville and La Plata. Heading there with a Price Frederick travel trailer rental is almost like stepping out of your front door to find your adventure waiting for you (in fact, that's exactly what it is).

The Great Outdoors

Given its location on a peninsula, the parks near Prince Frederick tend to be limited in size but there are a few of them. Dunkirk District Park is open daily and has a dog park and public restrooms, a T-ball field, basketball court, tennis court, skateboard park, lacrosse and football fields, and bleachers. It is a popular park and visitors can join in a game of pickup basketball if they wish. Park your Prince Frederick luxury RV rental nearby and have your lunch or dinner waiting for you when you are finished having fun.

Other nearby areas worth checking out are Kings Landing Park (it has a wooden pathway), Hall Creek Natural Resources Management (also in Dunkirk), Hallowing Point Park, Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, and Calvert Cliffs State Park.

Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum is a 560-acre site with more than 65 identified archeological sites that date back 9,000 years. Visitors can come here to hike, walk their pets or bird watch, but would be missing what is special about this site. The visitor center has interactive exhibits showcasing the research that has been done here as well as educational programs and events. The museum is also home to the Maryland Archeological Conservation Laboratory that contains more than eight million artifacts. You can keep your Prince Frederick RV rental nearby, to retreat and relax after a day of exploration.

Those who would like to conduct their own archeological expeditions should head to Calvert Cliffs. This is also a good area for walking and hiking, with cliffs overhanging a sandy beach where people can hunt for fossils. It is also a popular spot for fishing. Fry up your catch of the day in your Prince Frederick camper rental.

RV Parks

There aren't many RV campgrounds in Prince Frederick but a few are located not too far away.

Cedarville State Forest in Brandywine, MD, is a smaller campground with very basic amenities; some but not all sites have electricity, but none have water. There are spigots throughout the campground where water can be had. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and there is a restroom with showers. Pets are allowed and there are trails for horseback riding and hiking, as well as a lake where you can go fishing.

Louise F Cosca Regional Park in Clinton has water and electricity, pull-through sites and is big rig friendly. Pets are allowed. It is a wooded campground, providing some shade, and has restrooms and showers.

Exploring The City

There is a good deal to see in the city, from bookstores and art galleries to vineyards and breweries, aquatic centers and theme parks.

One specialty farm not only sells the food they've grown and made (everything from fresh vegetables out of their garden and ice cream made by them, to memorabilia available in their gift shop, also made by them), but also host festivals, such as a corn maze festival where guests can go for a hayride and pick pumpkins, and take hot air balloon rides (to raise money for a cause).

There is a private commercial company that offers air tours of the area in a biplane. There are day spas for the adults to destress and numerous beaches within a short distance of Prince Frederick, enough to keep even the busiest of adults and families on the go for several days.

When it's time for dinner, there is a good variety of restaurants to choose from; prices vary from cheap to moderately priced. Most of the restaurants are locally owned and operated, with a few recognizable chain outlets to keep the children happy. Customers can choose from Mexican and American to Japanese, Asian fusion, Thai, Italian, pizza, barbecue, seafood, pub fare and more. Many of the restaurants are vegetarian and vegan-friendly, and gluten-free.

Diners also have the option of whipping up a good home cooked meal in their Prince Frederick motorhome rental with food purchased from local grocery stores and supermarkets, or directly off of the farm.
