Halethorpe is an unincorporated community located in Baltimore County in the state of Maryland. It was established around 1890 as a planned community at the crossroads of B & O and Pennsylvania Railroads. In old English, “halethorpe” means “healthy village.” The town was the site of a 1910 airshow, the first in history to have planes pass over a city on a pre-planned route. It was the site where the fossilized bones of an astrodon johnstoni dinosaur were discovered and, in the interest of obsolete laws, kissing in public in Halethorpe is illegal (don't say you weren't warned). Today the town's economy relies on an aluminum extrusion plant and a local brewing company. The Maryland Transit Administration operates one bus line that serves Halethorpe.

Book an RV in Baltimore County, and you will be one step closer to the countryside and culture that is Halethorpe. Other towns are worth visiting and exploring too. White Hall has a site, Ivory Mills, that is included on the National Register of Historic Places (it is a grist mill complex added in 1997). Darlington has an apple festival that is held annually on the first Saturday of October. Severna Park is rumored to have been named as a result of a 1906 contest, but a local historian has suggested there is no evidence to confirm this folk story. Rockville is a center for several federal government agencies and part of a software and biotechnology hub, the Interstate 270 Technology Corridor. Mount Airy's early growth benefited from its proximity to the National Road, which ran from Baltimore to Illinois. Your Halethorpe travel trailer rental is your RSVP to a historical and adventurous vacation.

Discover Halethorpe

The Great Outdoors

Rockburn Branch Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area with trails leading through woodlands, freshwater marshes, and stream valleys. Visitors can look for dragonflies and small varieties of fish such as minnows and crayfish. The park is an ideal place for a picnic; the picnic areas are first-come, first-serve unless reserved. The park has a playground for younger children, basketball and tennis courts, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Mountain bike enthusiasts will enjoy the on-site skills course while photographers will have unlimited scenery to work with. Park your Halethorpe RV rental and include it in the foreground of your pictures (for bragging rights when you return home).

Patapsco Valley State Park, Avalon Area is a developed outdoor area with hiking trails passing through wooded areas and past brooks and waterfalls. Some of the trails involve swinging bridges that provide breathtaking views of the creek valleys below. There are picnic sites, some of which have shelters, and visitors can enjoy unguarded swimming in the river (some areas may have notices that swimming is not permitted for safety reasons, as currents can be strong). Paddling (canoes or kayaks) and tubing are allowed in the river. There is a visitors center where staff can answer questions and offer suggestions.

Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park was created in the 1940s from an estate whose previous owner willed that the lands be used for a public recreation area. Today it is a host to several music festivals throughout the year, in addition to its popularity as a venue for hiking, biking, and wildlife observation. While some areas are heavily wooded and resemble an undisturbed wilderness, other areas host tennis courts, sports fields, and a community garden. There are a nature center, an Outward Bound center, and a miniature train and track offering rides to the public (children must be able to seat themselves in order to ride, for safety's sake).

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in the area near Halethorpe, and some of them may have mobile homes, and some may require military ID. Your Halethorpe RV trailer rental is all you will need to have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation no matter where you stay.

Cherry Hill Park is a family owned and operated RV campground open all year long. The park offers a dog walking service, an on-site cafe, and propane delivery. Individual sites have full hookups; some sites are back-in, and some have pull-through access. Guests can enjoy two swimming pools and a splash park, mini-golf, tractor rides, and much more. The park hosts movie nights and other social events for all of its guests.

Exploring The City

There are lots of things to see and do in Halethorpe and the surrounding area. There aren't many sports where you can sing and watch a game, but a local baseball stadium offers both of these and not just any game but a major league (MLB) game. A local aquarium is considered one of the best in the world and offers science programs and other hands-on activities in addition to its vast collection of sea life. There is one national monument and an array of museums dedicated to art, railroads, and much more. Literary enthusiasts and horror movie buffs should take this opportunity to visit the grave of Edgar Allan Poe, considered by many to be the father of this literary genre. Remember to take your Halethorpe motorhome rental out for a spin around the countryside; riding high in an RV above the other traffic can be addictive.

When it's time for dinner, Halethorpe has what you're looking for. There are a few larger chain restaurants on hand, but guests might want to stick to locally owned places to get the authentic feel of the culture. One local barbecue joint has an online menu and delivers, but it would be worthwhile to eat in here. Diners checking this place out should try the pit beef and hand-cut fries. Be sure and take your leftovers home to your Halethorpe luxury RV rental for a late-night snack. Food this good should never be left behind.
