Essex is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County, Maryland, that was started by a real estate company in 1909. The company's purpose was to sell rural land to citizens in Baltimore who wanted to grow gardens or engage in other outdoor activities. Essex's first general store opened in 1910, and the realtors donated land for two churches built in 1911-12 and a fire station built in 1921. The community grew during World War II but diminished after; most of the aerospace industries situated in Essex were bought out and are now owned by Lockheed Martin. The community has one historic property, Ballestone Manor, that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; it was added to the list in 1975.

Search for an RV in Baltimore County, and you will have your choice from a fleet of vehicles that are both comfortable and equipped to handle the Maryland environment. There are other towns and cities that visitors should consider checking out. Cockeysville had some property destroyed during the Civil War when General Bradley T. Johnson entered the town and destroyed the telegraph lines, some railway track, and a bridge. Edgewood has been home to some celebrities like NFL offensive guard Brandon Albert, MLS goalie Zach Thornton, and musician Frank Zappa. Glen Burnie was a shooting location for the movie The Replacements (the high school football field appears in one of the scenes). Columbia was designed and created in 1967 with a focus on human values instead of economics and engineering. West Friendship has strict zoning laws which have helped to protect farms and historic homes from urban sprawl. Your Essex travel trailer rental is all that you will need to explore and learn about this fascinating area.
