Derwood is situated in the heart of Maryland, conveniently between the urban metropolises of Baltimore and Washington, DC. Located within driving distance to a number of beautiful green spaces, recreational lakes and convenient urban cities search for an RV in Montgomery County to secure your next getaway!

A relatively young town, Derwood didn’t start its life until the early 20th century, when it was established as a stop on the railroad. Unfortunately, the station burnt down in 1954 and never rebuilt. However, Derwood continued to thrive. As Washington quickly sprawled into the beautiful countryside, Derwood became a popular location for those wishing for some respite from the busy city!

Discover Derwood

The Great Outdoors

When you rent a motorhome in Derwood, you will have easy access to some of the most beautiful green spaces in the county. Rock Creek Regional Park is an unmissable attraction for anyone travelling through the area. This park has it all; miles of hiker and biker trails, perfect for any ability level; a beautiful Lake, great for a spot of fishing, boating or a bit of wild swimming and, if you are the adventurous type, take an exhilarating zip line tour through the trees!

It is also worth checking out its neighbor, the Meadowside Nature Center. Similar to Rock Creek, this park has miles of beautiful trails, showcasing some of the areas most beautiful spots, as well as a huge lake for some boating. Additionally, the nature center itself is fantastic for any curious young minds and nature lovers! As well as informative displays centering on the native flora and fauna, there are a variety of different animals to check out, including anything from reptiles to deer!

For a slightly more tranquil spot, away from the crowds, try College Gardens Park, a five-minute drive from the center of town. This smaller, six-acre park is full of open green spaces to take a leisurely stroll through or have a delicious picnic on a warm day! For a fun family activity, why not head to the basketball court and play a quick, friendly game with some of the locals!

RV Parks

When you choose an RV rental near Derwood, you may have to search a little further afield to find somewhere to call home for the night. Due to the town’s close proximity to Washington, DC, there are fewer campgrounds in this area!

When you head north from the city, towards Frederick County, there are a few great options to choose from. Little Bennett Campground, located just off Interstate 270, is one of the most highly recommended in the area. This family-run campground has a cozy atmosphere whilst still maintaining excellent amenities and even full hook-ups in the heart of the woods! There is a two-night minimum stay here, but that will not be difficult to fulfill in such an idyllic location!

Alternatively, if you are planning on visiting Washington with your Derwood motorhome rental, consider staying at Cherry Hill Park. Claiming to be the closest campground to Washington, it does charge slightly premium prices! However, with the full variety of modern facilities, including site-wide WiFi, the campground is a dream.

Head down the road to the slightly more primitive, Greenbelt Park Campground. Hidden within a wooded park, you will quickly forget that you are only sixteen miles away from downtown Washington! Full washroom facilities are provided here, although they are old and slightly worn, they still function and get the job done.

Once you’ve completed the course, why not treat yourself to a cool refreshment at the luxury clubhouse!
