Less than 10 miles north of Washington D.C. is the lively college town of College Park, Maryland. Developed in the late 19th century, College Park was originally just a few homes and businesses centered around the Maryland Agricultural College (which has since become the University of Maryland's flagship institution). This happening town in Prince George’s County was subdivided into several historic neighborhoods after officially incorporating in 1945; its growth has consistently increased since WWII due to its stellar location and wonderful university.

There are plenty of fabulous restaurants and bars catering to the bevy of university students who live in the small city, and lots of places to visit within the massive metro area. Baltimore and the US capital are both easy destinations to get to when you rent an RV in College Park, especially if you utilize the Washington Metro’s Green Line which connects visitors to the entire network of public transportation. Visitors find it is easy to get to College Park, as there are four major airports within 100 miles, including College Park’s very own airport which is one of the oldest in the world. The city parks in College Park and the countywide parks in Prince George’s County are well maintained and ideal for most outdoor activities. Paint Branch Stream Valley Park is smack-dab in the center of town, covering 1,000 acres and containing two small lakes. The park is bisected by the Paint Branch Stream, with lots of small bridges spanning the water. Nature trails are prevalent and plentiful at Paint Branch Stream Valley Park, and there is a playground for kids to enjoy too. College Park Dog Park is a nice pet-friendly location for people traveling with animals. Greenbelt Park is right outside of town and has a bevy of campsites, and walking trails too. Prince Williams Forest Park is on the other side of Washington, D.C., down by Alexandria, Virginia. This amazing forest park is the largest protected natural area in the D.C. metro area, with over 16,000 acres of pristine wilderness. Shenandoah National Park is an absolute gem of a park in western Virginia, where the Blue Ridge Mountains enchant and impress. The famous Skyline Drive that dodges and weaves up and down to the various peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains is one of the best drives in the world, so definitely check it out when you rent an RV.

City Sightseeing

There are so many incredible things to do when you tour the area with the rental motorhome in College Park, especially considering that the town is designed around keeping university students happy and occupied. Food is excellent and often times restaurants are open late, as are the many bars and pubs. The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is located on the University of Maryland campus and hosts performing arts events like plays, musicals, and concerts. Nearby Capital One Field, the home stadium for the Maryland Terrapins, is the place to be on game days during the fall. The atmosphere is electric and the tailgating is wonderful.

The Cory House, College Park Airport, the Rossborough Inn, and President Lincoln's Cottage are some of the historical sites you can find in the area, as well as countless others. The College Park Aviation Museum has unique exhibits, interesting artifacts, and a fun flight simulator for guests to try. The second-floor patio is a perfect place to watch the planes take off from the nearby College Park Airport. Don’t forget that Washington D.C. is only minutes away, so many of the world’s most cherished buildings and museums are on display, like the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, or the Washington and Lincoln monuments.

The aforementioned Greenbelt Park is one of the closest campgrounds to College Park, where you can feel relaxed among the trees without leaving the metro area.

Pohick Bay Regional Park is south of College Park, with mini golf and disc golf courses in addition to many other features.
