Discover Kaplan

The Great Outdoors

Visitors to Kaplan will have easy access to Louisiana’s scenic wetlands and gulf coast. RVers looking to experience natural freshwater and saltwater wetlands along the Gulf can check out the many nature preserves near Kaplan. The Cameron Prairie and Lacassine National Wildlife Refuges offer visitors short trails and auto tours through marshland as well as opportunities for birdwatchers to view bird migrations. Visitors to these refuges can also fish and hunt in-season. Other outdoor activities, however, are limited at these refuges in order to minimize disturbances to local wildlife. The Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, however, offers a bit more extensive hiking opportunities as well as two public boat launches. Unfortunately, canoes and kayaks are not allowed at this refuge since large alligators roam the marshlands.

If you’re looking for more recreational opportunities, head to one of the area’s many parks. For more extensive hiking within a natural preserve, head to the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors can hike and bike along nature trails and levees within the park as well as canoe and kayak down select paths. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park also has over five miles of hiking trails, a seven-mile canoe and kayak trail, and birding opportunities.

Palmetto Island State Park is the ideal destination for water recreation enthusiasts; with fishing opportunities, public boat launches, and canoe and kayak trails, visitors can easily enjoy a day on the water for a unique South Louisiana outdoor experience. If the Gulf Coast calls your name, head to Cypremort Point State Park. This park has a massive public swimming beach for visitors to enjoy along with on-site boat ramps and picnic pavilions. With your rental RV, you’ll easily be able to indulge in the natural beauty of Southern Louisiana.

RV Parks

If you book an RV in Kaplan, you’ll easily find a great home base in the scenic Louisiana prairie or wetlands. If you’d like to stay close to nature, head to Fausse Pointe State Park, Palmetto Island State Park, or the Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge.

At Fausse Point, RVers can choose from sites with both water and electrical hookups along the water, which come with access to an on-site restroom, playground, and dump station. You’ll have even more options at Palmetto Island, which offers sites with water and electrical hookups as well as a boat ramp in the campgrounds. If you decide to camp at Atchafalaya with the Kaplan motorhome rental, you won’t have as many hookup options, but you’ll surely experience some of the most scenic parts of Southern Louisiana.

If you’d rather stay close to civilization, head to the Abbeville RV Park, Betty’s RV Park, or the Frog City RV Park, near Duson.

The Abbeville RV Park is just minutes from Kaplan, in Abbeville, and offers full hookups, a mile-long on-site nature trail, and a birding area. Betty’s RV Park is also nearby, but it’s smaller than the Abbeville RV Park. This campground offers full-hookup sites with access to basic amenities like wireless internet and a covered pavilion area.

If you’d rather stay a bit closer to I-10 and Lafayette, check out the Frog City RV Park. This RV campground features full-service sites with access to amenities like a modern bathhouse and seasonal pool. With these great options, you’ll easily find a great place to park your rental RV near Kaplan.

Exploring the City
