RV rentals in Bogalusa, LA, put you in the driver's seat only moments after you have arrived. Bogalusa is the county seat of Washington Parish, and it began in the 1930s as a sawmill town providing lumber cut from the plentiful pine forests. In the late 1930s, the sawmill was replaced by a paper mill and chemical plant. Its economy still relies heavily on the local lumber and paper mills, as well as on agriculture. Nearby towns and cities worth exploring as well include New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Hammond, Morgan City and Lafayette, and a Bogalusa luxury RV rental puts any and all these cities at your fingertips.

Today, Bogalusa is the home of the Robert Hicks Foundation, which was established to continue Civil Rights work. The Hicks family home was the birthplace and center of the Bogalusa chapter of The Deacon for Defense and Justice; in 2015, the National Parks Service included the home on the National Register of Historic Places, and it now serves as a civil rights museum.

Bogalusa is also home to a number of celebrities in sports and music. Notable NFL alumni include Kenderick Allen, Super Bowl XVII champion Perry Brooks, Al Clark and John McGeever. Jacob Brumfield and Charlie Spikes, the “Bogalusa Bomber”, made names for themselves as professional baseball players, and Skip Manning was named 1976 NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year. James Crutchfield (barrelhouse blues piano player), Professor Longhair (funky pianist) and Snoozer Quinn (jazz guitar pioneer) all made notable contributions to music and became inspirations for some of today's best musicians.

The Great Outdoors

Although early lumber interests clearcut much of the pine forests, reforestation efforts have succeeded in replacing the fallen timber and Bogalusa has once again become a haven for nature lovers. RV enthusiasts should plan some time to relax under the canopy of a Bogalusa RV rental to enjoy the sounds and smells of these pine groves. South of Bogalusa you will find Bogue Chitto National Wildlife, a 36,000-acre refuge. This collection of lakes, rivers and swamps offers some of the best camping, fishing and hunting in Louisiana. Farther south and closer to New Orleans, Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge looks out onto Lake Pontchartrain and provides excellent opportunities for paddle boarding, fishing and other water activities. Bayou Sauvage also offers a chance to observe wild animals up close but within a safe distance, and a chance to view lakeside homes that have been in local families for generations. Situating your Bogalusa rental motorhome near any of these places allows you to maximize how you use your time without sacrificing the days-end chill factor.

West of Bogalusa, land lovers will be happy to explore Bogue Chitto State Park, which offers hiking and equestrian pursuits in addition to water activities (riders need their own horses but can rent them at Bogue Chitto Horse Rentals). Hiking trails are equipped with boardwalks which visitors are encouraged to stay on in order to protect the indigenous plant life (and to protect the visitors from mucky shoes). Disc golfing, birding and a water playground are available, and those who love water activities can rent canoes, kayaks and inner tubes. Guests who wish to admire the views and also know what they're looking at can join in the state park's outdoor classroom during scheduled sessions.

RV Parks

There are a couple RV parks in Bogalusa, and if you expand the search radius out a bit, options increase. Bogue Chitto State Park has quite a few RV sites, all of which are pull through, and have water and electricity; some of the sites have sewer.

Near Poplarville, MS, the Haas Cienda Ranch has a swimming pool and hosts movie nights in an open field, which everyone is invited to attend. About 20 miles southeast of Bogalusa, near Carriere, MS, visitors can check out the Clearwater RV Park.

Exploring the City

Bogalusa welcomes visitors and invites them to attend any of its festivals, such as the Bogalusa Paper Queen Ball (a celebration of the town's founding), the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival and the Festival in the Park. Bogalusa has its own Mardi Gras parade of which it is very proud.

No trip to anywhere in Louisiana would be complete without trying the state's famous crawfish, and it can be found everywhere when in season. Crawfish season runs from February to May, and there is no limit to the eateries that will put out this essential Creole dish, from established restaurants to backwoods shacks. The truly curious can even take a tour of the local crawfish farms, to see how these crustaceans go from farm to table. The truly insatiable will want to bring some of these tasty critters home, “some” meaning a bucketful or whatever will fit into the Bogalusa rental RV fridge.

Louisiana is also synonymous with great music and even has a genre of music all to itself, which even the most naive of music listeners will quickly recognize (even if they can't identify it). This music and the local nightlife in Bogalusa go hand in hand, and visitors who aren't strongly interested in sampling the nightlife can take a walking tour of the nightclub districts, listening to the music that pours out into the night air, or park their Bogalusa camper rental within listening range.
