West Lafayette is a city in Wabash Township in Indiana, located across the Wabash River from the city of Lafayette. Indianapolis is approximately one hour's drive from West Lafayette, and Chicago is two hours' drive away, as is Fort Wayne. One of the most important historical buildings in the area is Fort Ouiatenon, located on the southwest side of the city. It was built in 1717, as the first fortified European settlement in Indiana. The building was a palisade stockade with a log blockhouse used as a French trading post on the Wabash River.
The John and Catherine Christian House, also known as Samara, is located in the center of the city and was built by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1950s. This Usonian-style home was designated as National Historic Landmark in 2015, as one of the most famous houses built by this architect.
