Bethany is a village in Moultrie County, in the state of Illinois. The county was formed in 1843 with sections that were to be taken from neighboring counties Macon, Shelby, and Coles. Macon donated a strip of “worthless swamp” that later turned out to be highly fertile and valuable. Moultrie County was named after South Carolina General and Governor William Moultrie who fought the British at Sullivan's Island; he also designed the “Moultrie Flag” which flew over the fort at Sullivan's Island and later became an iconic symbol of liberty in the south. The flag is now the official flag of Moultrie County, Illinois.

With RV rentals in Moultrie County, you can find a vehicle that perfectly suits both your vacation needs and the Illinois countryside. While you are here, take some time to visit other nearby communities. Decatur was known as “The Soybean Capital of the World” for most of the 20th century. Champaign is known as the hub of the “Silicon Prairie” due to its university, numerous startup technology companies, and its collection of Fortune 500 companies that have offices there. Taylorville is nicknamed “The Christmas Capital of Illinois.” Your Bethany travel trailer rental is your invitation to begin exploring this area; where you take it from there is up to you.

The Great Outdoors

Kaskaskia River State Fish and Wildlife Management Area is one of the largest WMAs in the state and possesses a wide variety of land and water habitats. The area has a mixed bottomland forest of oak, maple, willow, and other tree species, plus cultivated and fallow fields that are interspersed with the tree stands. As a result, this ecosystem hosts a wide variety of wildlife and is an ideal spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts. Boating and fishing within the park are allowed on Baldwin Lake, and an extensive trail system is available to hunters and all other foot traffic.

Wolf Creek State Park is located on the east-central shoreline of Lake Shelbyville and is a part of the Shelbyville Reservoirs Project. It is a popular destination for those who want to get away for a day or weekend, and it provides opportunities for boating and fishing, camping and swimming, and other activities. The campsites have restrooms with showers, electrical outlets, and picnic tables; some of the campsites are designated for tent camping. Park your Bethany camper rental here for the day or several days, and you can create your own self-contained nature blind on wheels with all the comforts of home.

Sand Creek Open Space Reservation is an outdoor recreation area providing the public with opportunities to hike and ride horseback. The terrain is a combination of forest, open prairie, and floodplain, and the resident wildlife is just as varied as a result. Picnic tables and grills are provided at the park entrance or visitors can picnic within the park (but are asked to pack out their garbage and any items they bring with them). The established trails cross Sand Creek in several places and the historic Paris-Springfield Road, which Abraham Lincoln once took, also runs through the park.

The seats are designed so that everyone has a good view, and the acoustics are superb.
