Homer is a small town in Banks County, Georgia, as well as the county seat. It was founded and named county seat in 1858 and incorporated the following year. It is home to a number of historical buildings, such as the Old Banks County Courthouse, built in 1863, and the Old Jail, built in 1880. Fort Hollingsworth, another historical site, was built in 1792 and converted into a farmhouse in 1860; the Blind Suzie Covered Bridge just outside of town is closed to traffic (foot and vehicles) but is a popular location for taking sunset pictures. Some local celebrities include baseball legend Ty Cobb, who was born at the Narrows in Banks County.

Search for an RV in Banks County and you will have a selection of RVs to choose from that are perfectly suited to the Georgia outdoors. There are other towns and cities that are also worth visiting and spending some time in. Helen has a Bavarian look to it, honoring both its citizens' ancestry and its proximity to mountains (again similar to their ancestors' home country). Greenville is the home of two professional athletes, one in the NFL and another in the NBA. Elberton is referred to by some as “The Granite Capital of the World”.Madison is the setting for the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, a performing and visual arts venue with permanent exhibitions; Athens, Georgia pop band REM played at the center with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 1991, recording a version of “Losing My Religion” that won a Grammy Award for both groups in 1992. Lawrenceville has been connected to a number of celebrities, including Oliver Hardy (of Laurel & Hardy fame), who lived in Lawrenceville as a child around 1900, and Ezzard Charles, who was born here in 1921. Charles grew up in Cincinnati and defeated Joe Lois in 1950 to become the World Heavyweight boxing champion. Your Homer travel trailer rental is your introduction to this colorful state that is both historically and currently relevant.

The Great Outdoors

Oconee National Forest is a multi-use protected area combining public recreation with land management and environmental protection. Visitors to the park can hike, go mountain biking or horseback riding, or camping. Campsites are primitive and campers can stay for up to seven days. Deer hunting is allowed during hunting season and some other activities are restricted during hunting season as a safety precaution.

Moccasin Creek State Park is a family-friendly recreational area within the Chattahoochee National Forest. The park is relatively flat despite its mountain location, making it easier for older and disabled guests to make their way around. Fishing is available, from a pier overlooking a trout-filled creek, for young children, seniors, or those with a Georgia disability fishing license. It has hiking trails in the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains and water activities such as swimming and kayaking on Lake Burton. There are mountain bike trails and waterfalls too. Camping is allowed and there are sites for both RV campers and tent camping. Park your Homer camper rental here and you can enjoy a nice home-cooked meal and coffee when your activities are finished.

Don Carter State Park is a developed recreational area on Lake Lanier, at the north end of the reservoir. It has a playground and outdoor exercise equipment, a sand beach, and a boat ramp and dock. Camping is allowed at the park and there are some cabins for rent; the park is gated.

Twin Lakes RV Park is a family owned and operated RV campground. The park is next to two fully stocked lakes that provide an opportunity to enjoy catch-and-release fishing. Most of the sites have full hookups and the park is pet-friendly. Sites can be rented by the day or month.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to do in Homer, maybe even more than one could fit into a normal vacation. Car racing enthusiasts can check out a local NHRA dragway or get really ambitious and head for a fun center that has mini go-karts. Those with more ambition than skill can try their hand at the fun center's bumper cars. The center has a rock climbing wall, more rides, and an arcade room. There are factory outlets where visitors can get their shopping on, antique stores, and second-hand bookstores. One local dude ranch can bring out the cowboy in anyone and an outdoor adventure tour company will have you zipping through the trees if you dare. While you're at it, don't forget to take your Homer motorhome rental for a spin on the local highways. Being free as a bird is what RV vacations are all about, and this is your chance to do exactly that.

Dinnertime in Homer is just as rewarding; there is a balance of locally owned restaurants and commercial chain venues, so everyone should be able to get what they want. There is one commercial steakhouse and guests dining here might want to try the coconut shrimp. Portions are large, so expect to be taking your leftover meal home to your Homer luxury RV rental for a late night snack. Vacation time is time to indulge and leave being serious at home where it belongs.
