Dundee is a city in Polk County, Florida, which unofficially came into existence with the arrival of Mr. Menzie from Dundee, Ireland, in 1910. The following year saw the completion of the Dundee Train Depot, a stop along the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad's Haines City to Sebring branch. The earliest industry in Dundee was timber, harvested to construct the train depot and other buildings, but the pine resources soon ran out and local industry switched to producing citrus fruits. The local industry later expanded to include fruit processing plants.

Today the original train depot still stands, with a decommissioned locomotive standing guard outside; it has been declared a National Historic Landmark, a symbol of Dundee's origin and history. Book an RV in Polk County and you are on your way to an adventure filled with sunshine and warm sea breezes (this is Florida, after all). Some other cities worth checking out include Orlando, Sebring, Arcadia, Bradenton, and Tampa. Sebring is known by some as “The City on the Circle” due to its unique layout (a perfect circle with all roads leading from the outside to the city center). Arcadia is cowboy country, where you will see real cowboys (slightly different from the urban country music variety) while shopping for watermelon and citrus fruit. Your Dundee travel trailer rental is the perfect way to explore these areas too.

Discover Dundee

The Great Outdoors

Hilochee WMA is a wildlife management area north of Dundee, with a lake, trails for hiking and biking, and a botanical garden with butterflies. There are waterfalls and visitors to the area can go fishing or look for bird and animal species to photograph, or picturesque locations. This would be a perfect place to take pictures of your Dundee RV rental against a scenic backdrop.

Lake Marion Creek Wildlife Management Area is a mostly wooded swamp with hiking trails, fishing and an abundance of birds and wildlife. Really ambitious hikers can make their way to Lake Wales Ridge, or take in the plant species along the less difficult trails. Camping is allowed here, as is hunting at certain times of the year.

There is a golf course and tennis club nearby that is open to the public. The course is challenging but not impossible, and a good way to stretch the legs as well as the arms. There is a restaurant where customers can grab a bite before or after playing a round. The course and the club were established in the 1920s and have played an important role in the community ever since. Non-golfers can use this opportunity to engage in landscape photography or try to capture the bird species that call this gentrified environment their home.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV campgrounds and parks near Dundee. Most of these have pull through and big rig access, laundry facilities, and pet areas. Many of the individual sites within these resorts have full hookups. Your Dundee motorhome rental is perfectly matched to Florida RV parks and is your ticket to a relaxing vacation, however long it may be.

Tropical Palms Resort has a camp store, propane, and Wi-Fi. There is a swimming pool, playground and recreation room where social activities are held on a regular basis. The campground is kid-friendly and has some tent sites.

East Haven RV Park has a heated swimming pool and is children-friendly. Some of the tenants are long-term and the park is well managed.

Cypress Campground & RV Park has restrooms and showers, paved roads, and a recreation room. It has a swimming pool and playground and is children-friendly. Wi-Fi is available throughout the park and propane can be purchased. Individual sites have cement patios.

Exploring The City

There are a variety of things to do in Dundee, some so unique you may not find them anywhere else (or at least in very few other places). Nothing says “Florida” like taking a ride in an airboat (you may have seen these on TV if you don't already know what they are). There are many tours conducted on airboats, the better ones will be knowledgeable about the local wildlife and may even let you hold a baby alligator (try doing that anywhere else). More extreme sports enthusiasts will want to try their hand at skydiving or flyboarding (water propelled jets that you stand on), while the tamer among us can take water skiing lessons. Spectators can easily watch and record your efforts from the comfort of your Dundee RV trailer rental, so be sure to make it look good.

Younger children might get a thrill out of the entertainment centers, some of which have made entire theme parks based on the Lego toy (don't worry, the theme parks provide all the Lego pieces). Adults will be happy to know that there are live theaters, antique stores, and specialty gift shops. There are painting and pottery studios where guests can take lessons or perhaps just guided instruction, and a nature center can inform visitors about the local plant and animal life, the geography of the area, and the natural (rather than man-made or man-centered) history.

Dusk settles into nightfall and it is time to satisfy the grumblings of your stomach. There are a few commercial food enterprises to be found but most of the establishments are locally owned and operated. Whatever you spend here, stays here, and most of the outlets are reasonably priced. Cuisines available range from bistro to barbecue, Greek to Chinese, and more. One of the outlets serves up baby back ribs in big portions; order these and you are guaranteed to be taking part of your meal home to your Dundee luxury RV rental to continue enjoying it as next day's lunch.
