Hockessin’s location in the largely rural northwestern corner of the state means that you won’t need to go far to find great places to spend time in nature. White Clay Creek State Park is the premier outdoor destination in the area and well worth the trip when you get a travel trailer rental in Hockessin. Its 37 miles of trails are suitable for all fitness levels and are a great way to experience Delaware’s countryside.

Newark Reservoir is also worth checking out as it has some enjoyable trails circling the lake in addition to being connected to Old Paper Road Park and William M. Redd Junior Park. However, as the reservoir is the water supply for Newark, no boating is allowed there.

There’s also the Riverwalk in Wilmington, which is a great place for a sunset stroll. The two-mile-long trail follows Brandywine Creek from H. Fletcher Brown Park up to the Wilmington State Parks area. The Brandywine Zoo and dog park are also located along the parkway.

One of the most well-equipped campgrounds is the Philadelphia/West Chester KOA, a short distance to the north of Hockessin. As with most KOA parks, you’ll find full hookups here in addition to a swimming pool, a dog park, bike rentals, and a mini-golf course. There’s also Oma’s Family Campground, which is in a gorgeous location in Pennsylvania Dutch Country just outside the town of Oxford. It’s also close to some Amish communities so you can watch the horse and buggies coming by each day.

You might also consider the Spring Gulch RV Campground near New Holland, Pennsylvania. They are also located in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and offer amenities including a playground, basketball court, swimming pool, laundry facilities and full hookups for your Hockessin camper rental.

You might be able to camp in the parking lot of the Walmart store in Wilmington. You’ll need to obtain the manager’s permission first, and there won’t be any amenities, but it could be an option if you just need a place to park for a night or two.

Hockessin is a fairly quiet town with a few museums and shops to visit along its main street. If you need a little bit of extra excitement, Wilmington is just a short drive away.

One noteworthy attraction that’s right here in Hockessin is the Marshall Steam Museum, home to a diverse set of antique vehicles from the beginning of the automotive age. As the name suggests, they even have several cars with unique engines built to run on steam rather than gasoline. Visit during the annual “Steamin’ Days,” which are the first Sunday of the month from June to November, when patrons are welcome to sit in the automobiles – no driving allow though.

For some culture when you rent an RV here, visit the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington. It houses an enormous collection of art and illustrations from the past 200 years, with a focus on the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood movement. The Brandywine River Museum of Art is not far from there and showcases the work of Andrew Wyeth and his family. The museum is located inside a 19th-century mill too, making for a very historical experience.

If you prefer making your own meals or need some supplies for roasting around the campfire, there are a number of grocery stores near the downtown area, including a few specialty shops. For something a little quicker, there are also quite a few convenience stores to choose from. Larger truck stops can be found near Interstate 95 and on the outskirts of Wilmington; these will be your best bet for finding a dump station outside your campground and will be easier to maneuver around with your motorhome rental from Hockessin.
