Explore the Outdoors

It is impossible to ignore the surreal beauty of the Centennial State when you rent an RV in little Buffalo Creek, with the mountains looming overhead almost menacingly in the distance. These behemoths serve as a constant reminder that adventure is always on the horizon beckoning to adventures and nature-minded folk. Before you even head to the mountains though, try taking your Buffalo Creek RV rental to Roxborough State Park just south of Denver. This glorious example of Colorado beauty is actually recognized as a National Natural Landmark due to its three-hundred-million-year-old red sandstone geological formations that contrast beautifully with the evergreen trees. You can go hiking, mountain biking, or rock climbing at this incredible natural area and see some of its wildlife roaming the forest. There is also a visitor center, a bookshop, and restrooms on site.

Staunton State Park is another state park close to Buffalo Creek, with nearly 4,000 acres of forested land. Mighty Black Mountain rises above the park, dominating the skyline while mystifying hikers traveling through the park. Hidden waterfalls and lakes can be found by exploring the area and mountain biking is an excellent way to see more of the park. Staunton State Park is dotted with several historical sites, old hotels, hunting lodges, and log cabins, further adding to its value as a fun place to explore.

Pike National Forest quite literally surrounds the town of Buffalo Creek, so lots of forests, lakes, mountain hikes, and campgrounds can be found nearby. The forest is named for explorer Zebulon Pike and shares a name with Pikes Peak, a billion-year-old mountain with pink and orange coloring. The massive, 14,000-foot tall mountain is made from granite and is commonly climbed by adventurous souls in the summertime when the frost has thawed. There are several rest areas and places to eat along Pikes Peak's ascent and the summit provides intoxicatingly beautiful views of the million-acre forest.

An hour's drive to the south, you can bring your Buffalo Creek camper rental to the Great Sand Dunes National Park, known for its gigantic sand dunes reminiscent of the Sahara Desert in Africa. These dunes are fun to climb up, tumble down, or even surf like one would do on a wave or skiing mountain. There are plenty of other national parks in Colorado but none quite so unique as this hidden treasure. There are, as you may have guessed, ample camping spots for you and your Buffalo Creek motorhome rental when visiting the epic sand dunes south of Colorado Springs.

RV Parks to Visit
