Yreka is a small town in northern California by the Oregon border. In 1851, gold was discovered by Yreka, and several months later, 2,000 prospectors called the town home. No one is sure where the name for the town came from, with some claiming that it comes from the native Shasta word for “white mountain.” Famed author Mark Twain famously wrote that the name came from someone seeing the opposite side of a bakery sign where the B was missing, and Yreka was chosen by residents who thought it was quite funny. The origin of the name might be a mystery to this day, though the town’s popularity as a vacation destination is no secret.

When you book an RV in Yreka, there are endless possibilities scattered in the lush landscapes of northern California, from Mount Shasta to the south to the epic mountaintop forests of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the mesmerizing lost coasts to the west. Yreka is conveniently located on Interstate 5, connecting Redding with Medford, Oregon to the north. You can easily get to either city, as well as some of the other major cities and parks in the Pacific Northwest with little effort needed when you rent an RV in this charming town.

Mount Mazama, the ancient mountain that holds the alpine lake, exploded millions of years ago, which led to the development of one of the deepest and clearest lakes in the world. This World Heritage site and natural landmark is a legendary place to hike around, swim, or boat on the frigid lake.
