Discover Yolo

The Great Outdoors

Some of the country’s most pristine alpine forests are just a short drive away from Yolo and you certainly can’t go wrong with a trip to the nearby Sierra Nevada. However, for a truly unique experience take a day trip up to Lassen Volcanic National Park. While Yellowstone Park in Wyoming gets all the credit when it comes to geothermal tourists attractions, Lassen has steam vents popping up in its lush forests.

The famed shores of Lake Tahoe are also just on the other side of the mountains from Yolo and offer some of the best watersports opportunities in the country. Here you can rent any size watercraft you like, from kayak all the way up to a pontoon boat fit for entertaining 20 or more people. If you’d like to spend some time on the water when you get a travel trailer rental in Yolo, this is the perfect place to do it.

If you don’t want to drive far for an outdoor adventure though, head to Fremont Weir State Wildlife Area just east of town. It’s a fairly undeveloped piece of land along the Sacramento River and is popular with hunters, anglers, and birdwatchers. If you just need a peaceful place to relax or some short trails to roam, this is an excellent place to visit.

RV Parks Near Yolo

Yolo’s location near Sacramento and its proximity to the Sierra Nevada range makes it popular with RV campers, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a place to camp when you rent an RV here. Boat Yard RV Park is one of the closest and is just a short drive to the northeast of town. Its location along the Sacramento River provides for plenty of recreational opportunities and sites have full hookups.

The Campers Inn RV Park and Golf Resort in Dunnigan is another choice when you get a motorhome rental in Yolo. Sites there have full hookups along with shower facilities and some green space if you need a quick stroll. There’s also the Happy Time RV Park to the northwest of Yolo, which doesn’t have too much in the way of amenities but does have hookups.

Another option is the Sacwest RV Park and Campground just outside of Sacramento. Full hookups are available along with laundry facilities, a dog park, a heated swimming pool, and even bicycle rentals. It’s a little farther from Yolo, but if you want a place with amenities, this could be the campground for you.

If you’re just looking for a place to stay for a couple of nights and don’t mind camping with no amenities, you might want to consider the Walmart in Woodland. With manager permission, you should be able to park your RV for a night or two and its location near Sacramento makes it pretty convenient.

Exploring the Town of Yolo

Yolo is quite small and doesn’t have much for tourist attractions within its city limits, but the cities of Woodland, Sacramento, and Davis are all quite close by. If you’re looking for a great rainy day activity when you get an RV rental in Yolo, the California State Railroad Museum is a hard one to beat. It covers the fascinating history of the Transcontinental Railroad and how trains connected California and the West Coast to the rest of the U.S. Another option for a historical outing is the California Agriculture Museum, home to America’s most unique collection of tractors and farm implements. California’s Central Valley is famed for being the agricultural epicenter of America and this is one of the best places to learn about how it all comes together.

For a quiet afternoon in a beautiful setting, you can’t do much better than the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden. This beautiful space occupies 100 acres along Putah Creek, just outside the university campus. Miles of paved trails meander through the thousands of trees that have been planted here over decades. While those working at the university use it as a research facility, it’s also just a great place to relax, meditate, and consider the exquisite beauty of California.
