Villa Park is a very small city in Orange County, California. Most of the city is zoned for single-family dwellings and has only one shopping center, which is situated right next to Villa Park's City Hall. The area where Villa Park now sits was originally settled in 1776 as a colony of New Spain and was known by several different names. It became a part of the United States in 1850 and was known as “Mountain View” in the 1860s. The community became known as Villa Park when the U.S. Postal Service refused to grant them a post office since there was already a pre-existing post office with the name “Mountain View”. At that time and throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, its economy focused on agriculture and the major crops produced were grapes, walnuts, apricots, and citrus fruits.
Several well-known celebrities hail from Villa Park, including actor Kevin Costner, actress Rosalind Chao and author LJ Smith (“The Vampire Diaries”). Lake Villa is also home to a number of professional athletes (in the MLB and NFL) and former U.S. Ambassador Susan McCaw. Book an RV in Orange County and your passport to California is stamped and ready for use. Other notable cities worth visiting are Pomona, Corona, Irvine, Long Beach, and Lakewood. Long Beach is a popular tourist destination with numerous attractions, including an aquarium and some award-winning parks. Photography hounds will enjoy snapping away in Pomona, which has more than 100 churches symbolizing a wide variety of religious faiths. Your Villa Park camper rental is your passport to these areas and their rewards.
El Modena is an open space hiking region with moderately difficult hiking trails, undergrowth such as cacti, and a variety of flower species. It is also a good place to observe butterflies and desert reptiles. Visitors here can hike or mountain bike to the top, where the view is panoramic. There are informational signs along the way, marking the trail and providing context to what you are seeing.
Peters Canyon Regional Park is another good destination for hiking and biking; trails are open for horseback riding as well. Trails are wide and well developed, relatively easy to more challenging in difficulty and provide park benches intermittently for taking a rest. There is a ranger station near the parking lot and a lake along the trail; there is a variety of eye-catching flower species and plant life within the park, and informational signs along the way. Park your Villa Park motorhome rental nearby as a comfortable reward after you have finished exploring the area.
Visitors with small children in tow would be well suited to visit Irvine Regional Park, an urban and well-developed park with numerous activities for both the young and the old. The rolling Orange County hills are populated with oak and sycamore trees and bisected by Santiago Creek. There are trails for walking/hiking and biking, all of which are not difficult at all, and bikes can be rented. There is a train that takes visitors on a 10-minute ride through the park.
There are no RV parks or campgrounds in or on the outskirts of Villa Park, but there are several within a short driving distance. Most of the campgrounds have full hookups, pull-through sites, and restrooms and showers. Many of the campgrounds have laundry facilities, allow pets and are child-friendly. Rent an RV in Villa Park and you have a home on wheels perfectly suited to traveling in Orange County.
Orangeland RV Park is a large campground with a heated swimming pool, fruit trees at most of the sites and a camp store. The asphalt roads are big rig friendly, and on-site activities include miniature golf and a recreation room with games and more.
Anaheim RV Park is a larger campground with a swimming pool, concrete pads and picnic tables at each site. Wi-Fi is available as well as a hotel and resort shuttle that stops at the gates; Disneyland is very near the park, making this a good accommodation for getting there and back.
There aren't many parks within Villa Parks city limits, but bird watchers can relax at a cafe or restaurant to engage in bird watching. The official bird of Villa Park is the hummingbird; green parrots routinely fly everywhere during the day, while turkey vultures will occupy the trees (possibly observing the parrots too). Visitors who wish to take a driving tour with their RV rental in Villa Park will enjoy that there are only a couple of traffic lights within the city limits.
When your stomach begins to remind you (ahem) what time it is, Villa Park is the perfect place to quell its grumblings. Prices here range from cheap eats to fine dining, so there is something for everyone regardless of their preferences. Most of the restaurants are locally owned and operated; the cuisines range from Italian and Mexican to Middle Eastern, Chinese and Japanese, and more. One Cuban cafe offers a ropa vieja (slowly cooked shredded beef with black beans and sweet plantains on a bed of tender white rice). A seafood venue prepares a delicious blackened sea bass and has a side of brussels sprouts (something you don't often see on a menu).
Alternatively, you can pick up some groceries and head back to your Villa Park luxury RV rental for a good home cooked meal. Most of the grocery stores are located slightly west of Villa Park but within a short distance. After a busy day, a quiet repast enjoyed under the stars might be just what you're looking for.
