San Juan Capistrano is a city in Orange County, California, founded by Spanish priests in 1776. It was originally Mission San Juan Capistrano and its purpose was to assimilate the native North Americans into Spanish life and culture. The building still exists today; it's used to inspire and educate people from all walks of life and to provide a spiritual and cultural experience. Be sure to capture it in a picture, with your RV rental near San Juan Capistrano in the foreground.

The transference of California to American control caused changes within San Juan Capistrano. It became a stopover and resupply point for drifters moving between San Diego and Los Angeles. Between 1850 and 1900, and possibly even as late as 1920, drunken brawls and violence became a regular occurrence. Its location on the path to the gold strikes in Northern California helped to put the town back on its feet. The development of an orange processing industry in the Capistrano Valley helped both economically and socially, as neighbors and families pulled together to control their town's development. Further expansion forces led to the creation of a new General Plan in 1974 that protected historic assets and open spaces.

Book an RV in Orange County and begin exploring the open fields and complex history that is a part of Orange County, and California by extension. There are other towns and cities nearby that are equally interesting and worth spending some time in. Laguna Niguel is a suburb of Los Angeles and a quiet relaxing place to grab a coffee or wander through a park (or both). Lake Forest's motto is “remember the past, challenge the future” (and they do). Newport Beach has its own non-profit historical society which conducts guided tours of the city. San Clemente is renowned for its coastal tranquility and rich architectural history, while Irvine is home to many young professionals who are politically astute and active. Your San Juan Capistrano camper rental is how you will see these oases and more.

The Great Outdoors

Crystal Cove State Park is a protected area that can be accessed by the public; it is open from early morning to sunset, seven days a week, and visitors can find parking near the entrance. The park is managed by State Park staff, who conduct interpretive programs year-round on subjects such as the area's geological structure, the beach tide pools and safely hiking in the backcountry. The park consists of a backcountry wilderness extending all the way to the beachfront cliffs, miles of beach, and an offshore reserve hosting a variety of sea plant life. Another section of the park, consisting of cottages from the 1930s and '40s, is the Historic District. Educational programs are conducted in one of the cottages; another houses a restaurant serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Palomar Mountain is a state park in northern San Diego County. At its peak, its elevation is 5,000 feet above sea level and its western face has beautiful forests and mountain meadows, with large pine, fir, and cedar trees. This facet of its landscape makes it comparable to the Sierra Nevadas. Views to the east from the summit look out into the desert areas. Guests can camp, hike and picnic, or fish for trout in Doane Pond.

Monarch Beach is an open beach in the city of Dana Point. Guests visiting this site can go beach combing or simply walk the beach, splashing their toes in the water if they are so inclined. It is home also to a golf course where visitors can play a round with the Pacific Ocean as a scenic backdrop (just make sure you don't slice the ball into the surf). Before the day is out, take your San Juan Capistrano RV rental for a spin; make sure you get to the surf on time.
