Just north of the towns of Lancaster and Palmdale in Southern California, the area of Rosamond sits on the outskirts of the Mojave Desert. Explore the City

If you’re looking for something a little less adrenaline pumping, or maybe just quieter, you can spend some time at the Windswept Ranch Petting Zoo. Just northwest of Rosamond, Windswept Ranch is home to a wide variety of animals. You can get up close and personal to a wide variety of animals, such as deer, camels, and even zebras.

If you’re looking to see some of the colors of the Mojave Desert, then make a trip to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in the spring. With eight miles of gentle trails, you will be led through fields of various wildflowers as they paint the desert landscape. Even if you aren’t traveling in the spring, the reserve is still a quiet place to do a little bit of Antelope Valley wildlife watching.

When in Southern California, be sure to treat yourself to the local delicacy that is the fish taco. If you feel like the desert may be a little too far away from fish, then a “normal” taco should suffice.
