The Great Outdoors

No trip to Southern California would be complete without some time spent at the beach. If you don’t want to drive far with your motorhome rental in Pala, the closest stretch of good sand is near Encinitas at Moonlight State Beach. You’ll find plenty of parking there along with showers and a fully stocked snack bar so you won’t need to leave the sand when hunger hits.

If long afternoons by the ocean aren’t your thing maybe hiking in the rugged Peninsular Mountain Range is. Elevations here range from just over 500 feet to upwards of 10,000, so no matter your hiking acumen or fitness level, you’re sure to find a trail that’s suitable for you. Palomar State Park is one of the most popular treks and there’s even an old fire lookout tower in its Boulcher Hill section that you can climb for some fantastic views. It’s also home to the Palomar Observatory where you can take a self-guided tour and learn about some of Caltech’s astronomy research being conducted there.

However, if you’d prefer to stick closer to home when you rent an RV in Pala, Wilderness Gardens Park is just outside of town and offers some short trails around the San Luis Rey River and a picturesque pond. You can’t beat the location if you’re looking for a picnicking spot close to town.

Here you’ll find full hookups, a swimming pool, and some relatively large sites to park your rig in. Another option is the Rancho Corrido RV Park just a little farther away, which also has full hookups, a swimming pool, but sites are not as spacious. Pechanga RV Resort and Casino, like the others, has full hookups and access to a swimming pool. The resort also offers a shuttle to the casino if you’re looking to do some gambling.

However, if you prefer a rustic atmosphere, it might be worth it to drive a little farther to Wilderness Lakes RV Resort. The resort offers full hookups, pool access, and guests can go fishing on site. Exploring the Town of Pala

There’s not a lot to do in Pala itself as many visitors to the area are just coming to gamble at the casino. However, it can function as a centralized jumping off point as you explore the rest of Southern California. Temecula is just a quick drive away and is the perfect place to spend an afternoon when you choose a camper rental in Pala. Temecula’s Old Town neighborhood is full of interesting shops selling everything from the typical tourist fare to high-end antiques and after a full day of shopping, you can eat at some of the best restaurants in town. It’s home to a number of Broadway-style performances and before the show, they offer a buffet-style dinner; you can also peruse the attached museum to learn about the theater’s history. Some of the casinos in the area also have some great shows so be sure to check their schedule to see if something interesting is playing during your visit.
