About a half-hour drive separates the small town of Mendota from the city of Fresno in central California. Mendota was a facility used for storage and switching by the Southern Pacific Railroad back in 1891. By 1892, Mendota had a post office, choosing the name Mendota in honor of Mendota, Illinois. Although it continued to grow at a speedy pace, Mendota was not formally incorporated until 1942.

Mendota primarily subsists on its agricultural industry, with a high number of farms and vineyards all around town. In fact, Mendota is recognized for its juicy cantaloupes, an enormous source of pride for the small town often hailed as the "Cantaloupe Center of the World." When you book an RV in Mendota, you are close to the geographical center of the Golden State, with lots of open space and no limit to where you can go. The gorgeous Sierra Nevada Mountains, an assortment of national parks and forests, pristine coastlines with scenic drives, and some of the most well-known cities in the country await when you rent an RV in Mendota.

Discover Mendota

The Great Outdoors

Mendota might not be the liveliest town you ever come across, but it sure does make sense as an outdoors-centric vacation destination. There are numerous places, parks, forests, mountains, and beaches you can reach with a few short hours in your Mendota camper rental, with nearly infinite others around the entire state. Pacheco State Park is a stunning park in the Diablo Range west of Mendota, with a large network of hiking and biking trails for guests to utilize. There are no camping areas within the park, but there are a series of historic buildings you can check out while you stroll through the mountain woods.

Close to Pacheco State Park, Henry W. Coe State Park is an exceptional place to visit when you rent an RV in Mendota. This massive state park has over 200 miles of dirt trails winding through the forest groves, perfect for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Backpacking through the wilderness and fishing are popular pastimes at Henry W. Coe State Park, and you can stay overnight in your Mendota camper rental during extended trips.

By far one of the most popular state parks in the state, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park also ranks among the largest of its kind. There is a gigantic Big Sur Lodge on-site where guests may stay in luxury, coupled with comfortable campgrounds that have all the usual amenities and then some. The allure of this intriguing park lies mostly with its stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, and its groves of towering redwood trees.

The closest national park to Mendota is Pinnacles National Park, a hidden gem that still flies well beneath the radar despite being one of the most spectacular parks in the United States. Pinnacles National Park is one of the smallest national parks in the country, as well as one of the newest, having been established in 2013. The appeal of this park lies with its enchanting geological formations that are as fun to climb as they are strange looking. Rock climbers, boulderers, and canyon explorers will delight in seeing every bit of this fascinating park, and there are several camping areas in case you want to stay a few extra nights in the comfort of your Mendota RV rental by owner.

RV Parks

When you do decide to rent an RV in Mendota, there aren’t any places to stay within the town itself. You can, however, easily locate some cozy places to spend the night in nearby towns and attractions. Santa Nella RV Park is near Pacheco State Park and is easy to reach, with splendid views of the lake and mountains. The park is centrally located in town, so a short walk is all you need to get to nearby shops and eateries. On-site, there are dog walking areas, coin-operated laundry facilities, and restrooms.

Los Banos West/ 1-5 KOA is also near Pacheco State Park. This campground has a playground, a pool, a convenience store, and laundry facilities to keep your clothes smelling clean and fresh.

Arena RV Park is a pet-friendly park complete with dog walking areas and a secure perimeter. A community kitchen, a patio area, and grassy landscapes give guests a homelike feel no matter the length of their stay in the park.

City Sightseeing

Mendota is a lovely little community with lots of small-town charm; there are tons of tiny shops, restaurants, and bars lining the main strip. Outside of a few local wineries, there are not really any true attractions that come to mind, so venturing out of town is necessary for those hoping to attend a concert or visit a museum. Over in Chowchilla, the Fossil Discovery Center continues to impress and amaze people of all ages with insight into the prehistoric animals that roamed the planet. Educational movies, fully intact ancient animal skeletons, and informative displays help convey what the Earth once looked like millions of years ago.

The Forestiere Underground Gardens can be found over by the city of Fresno, with hand-built, labyrinth-like catacombs reminiscent of Rome or Paris. These bizarre underground tunnels are truly impressive, with large quantities of plant life lining the passageways.

If you are looking for a fun place to spend the day with your kids and family, the waterpark in Fresno is a thrilling experience through and through for the young ones. Kids love to splash around in the wave pools, careen down lengthy waterslides, and float along the lazy river while their parents lounge and relax in poolside cabanas that can be rented for the day.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo is also great for families and young children, and there is lots to learn for curious animal lovers. You can ride a train or a boat through the park while viewing exotic animals from all over the globe.
