Mecca is a small desert community in south-central California, minutes from the picturesque Salton Sea. Mecca’s arid climate can be attributed to its location inside the Colorado Desert although it is surrounded by agricultural land in the Coachella Valley. The town is also surrounded by national forests and parks, making it a hidden gem for outdoor recreation.

When you choose to book an RV in Mecca, both San Diego and Los Angeles are only about a two-hour drive away. Southern California is packed with attractions, gorgeous scenery, world-class cities, and great campgrounds where you can stay when you rent an RV, and Mecca is as good of a place as any to start on your vacation adventure.

There are so many possibilities when it comes to looking for camping spots, forests, hiking trails, mountains, and deserts in Southern California, so it will take some research of your own to figure out where to bring your Mecca RV rental by owner. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is one place you can head when you rent an RV in Mecca. The park is among the largest state parks in California as well as one of the largest state parks of its kind in the entire country. Over 500 miles of dirt trails make for excellent off-roading and ATV riding, and over 100 miles of hiking paths can be navigated while staying at this exquisite park. Many types of interesting animals and plants can be seen in this fascinating desert ecosystem, and ancient wooly mammoth and whale fossils have been known to turn up now and then.

Cuyamaca Rancho State Park is just beyond Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and is a lovely place to bring your Mecca camper rental too. This amazing wilderness park is home to the mighty mountain lions so guests are asked to take precautions when tent camping. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and camping in your Mecca motorhome rental are all possibilities when you venture to this unbelievable park that has wide open meadows, mesmerizing oak and fir forests, and even Cuyamaca Mountain.

San Bernardino National Forest features legendary landscapes and is an excellent place to bring your Mecca RV rental. The national forest is one of the very best in Southern California and has some spectacular hiking through several wilderness areas and four distinct mountain ranges. The federal forest has nearly one million acres of land to explore and an assortment of peaceful campgrounds to enjoy with your Mecca camper rental.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful places you can head to when you arrive in town is nearby Joshua Tree National Park, one of California’s treasures. This enchanting park consists of two different deserts, the Sonoran and Colorado Deserts, which makes for exciting scenery and a wide variety of wildlife. The park is known for its unique, alien-like Joshua trees, the strange geological formation clusters found throughout the park that are great for bouldering and climbing, and the breathtaking night skies where visitors can see the rich, deep purple hue of our own galaxy’s outer arm.

RV Parks to Visit

You shouldn't have trouble finding a place to camp when you book a camper rental in Mecca. Mecca Beach Campground is a tiny place to stay with only four campsites, but its position on the edge of the Salton Sea makes for some stunning scenery and sunsets.

Corvina Beach RV Park & Campground is similar but larger than Mecca Beach. This park lacks upscale amenities but has all the basics in addition to great views of the water too. Bombay Beach Campground is farther away but still on the Salton Sea. This cozy campground is maintained by the state as a recreation facility and is also found on one of the world’s largest inland seas.

Oasis Palms RV Resort is spacious and enjoys a pool, spa, sauna, and many other great amenities.

City Sightseeing

For a town of so few people in the middle of the desert, Mecca oddly enough has a fair amount of attractions in and around it to enjoy. The town itself is nothing special especially when compared to neighboring towns like Indio and Coachella, but it has a simple charm to it that makes for a peaceful vacation destination. The International Banana Museum is found in Mecca and is a great place to check out for fun photo opportunities and a memorable time. This wacky museum has everything you could possibly imagine with regards to bananas, and a cool gift shop for souvenirs. Coachella Valley History Museum consists of several historic buildings like the Indio schoolhouse built in 1909 and the Smiley-Tyler adobe home built in 1926. These old buildings house a fantastic collection of keepsakes, artifacts, photographs, and informational exhibits.

The nearby casino is a small establishment in the next town over, with gaming floors, entertainment options, and fine dining. It may not be the largest casino but it is a fun place to spend an evening. Although they only occur once a year, Coachella Music Festival and Stagecoach Music Festival are two of the world’s most famous events of their kind, and both are held just minutes from Mecca. Mecca is a great place to rent an RV should you want to camp and enjoy one of these amazing celebrations of music.
