The city of Maywood lies just due south of the city of Los Angeles, but don’t think that Los Angeles has to outshine its suburban cousin as Maywood still has tons to offer those looking to rent an RV there. The Tweedy Mile shopping and entertainment district just south of Maywood in South Gate is a refreshing change from the crowds and high prices of downtown Los Angeles while still having plenty of options for a great night out.

When you book an RV in Maywood you’ll want to be sure to use the public transportation system. The traffic (and how to avoid it) is a favorite topic of conversation for every resident of Southern California and the challenge of it will only be magnified by trying to drive a large RV through it.

The Great Outdoors

When you choose a camper rental in Maywood you’re never left wanting for outdoor recreation. To the west, you have the glimmering waters of the Pacific Ocean and to the north and east, a plethora of mountain peaks waiting to be hiked. The coastline between Santa Monica and Long Beach is full of excellent beaches, all of which are just a short drive from Maywood. One of the most popular among them is Hermosa Beach, due to its long boardwalk and numerous tourist shops along the pier.

For a great hiking experience though, hitch up your travel trailer in Maywood and head to the Santa Monica Mountains. This surprisingly wild stretch of land between Malibu and Los Angeles is home to dozens of amazing trails that all overlook the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean. One of the best sections to visit is Topanga State Park, the largest park within the Los Angeles city limits.

However, if you’d prefer a quiet day in nature without needing to drive anywhere, hit up Maywood Park, it’s right in the center of town. The park sports several athletic fields, a playground for the kids, and a swim stadium that will be calling your name on a hot Southern California afternoon.

RV Parks near Maywood

Maywood is just a few miles from downtown Los Angeles, which means that the population density and real estate prices are just too high for there to be many RV parks around. One of the closer options is Hollywood RV Park in Van Nuys, where you’ll find full hookups for your Maywood motorhome rental, along with an art gallery and live theater. This is not your average RV park, but rather one focused on bringing a cultural experience to its visitors. Another RV park that’s a little farther away is Orangeland RV Park in the town of Orange. In addition to the regular amenities, it has a mini golf course, shuffleboard court, and laundry facilities.

There’s also the Anaheim Harbor RV Park, a short drive away down Interstate 5. The park is within walking distance to Disneyland (though there’s also a shuttle to it), the most popular attraction in Anaheim. It also has full hookups, a heated swimming pool, and coin-op laundry facilities.

When searching for fuel for your RV rental near Maywood, California, it’s best to stick to the interstates, as this is where you’ll find the truck stops and larger service stations where it won’t be so difficult to maneuver around your big rig. This is also where you’re likely to find dump stations.

Exploring the Town of Maywood

Most visitors to Maywood will probably be itching to get into nearby downtown Los Angeles, but there’s actually plenty to explore in the suburbs just south of the city. One of the more interesting sights near Maywood is the Watts Towers, a nearly 100-foot-tall set of steel towers that are decorated with refuse – bottles, bed frames, and ceramic tiles. Built in the 1920s by Italian-American artist Simon Rodia, the towers have become a major landmark in the Los Angeles area.

Maywood and the surrounding area is also home to large populations of immigrants, which gives the neighborhoods a rather eclectic feel with a diverse cuisine and a number of interesting cultural centers to explore. One of them is the Japanese American Museum. This is a wonderful place to learn about the immigrant experience and the history of Japanese Americans from the mid-19th century until now, including the horrific stories of Japanese-American internment during World War II.

Another place you’ll want to take your motorhome rental in Maywood is the South Gate Farmers Market. Every week vendors including food trucks, farmers, and artisans show up to hawk their wares. There’s also some outlet mall stores not far from Maywood if you’re looking for a good deal on clothing or home items.
