Sitting midway between Los Angeles and San Diego, along I-15 is Lake Elsinore. Being just over an hours drive from both bustling cities, Lake Elsinore provides the perfect escape from life’s worries. Nearby towns such as Lake Elsinore and Temecula also provide a great place for those camping with an RV to stock up on supplies before heading to the lake.

Lake Elsinore was first discovered in 1797 by Spanish explorers who named the lake ‘Laguna Grande." Since then, the lake has been rediscovered time and time again by the likes of Mexican rancheros, American trappers, John C Fremont and those seeking riches during the California Gold Rush.

Nowadays, visitors flock to Lake Elsinore to take advantage of the recreational activities on offer there. Book an RV in Riverside County today to secure your next getaway in The Sunshine State.

Discover Lake Elsinore

Getting Outdoors

Boating is one of the most popular ways to spend time on Lake Elsinore. Those who are motorhome camping with their own boat in tow can make use of the public boat ramp situated along the northern edge of the lake. All private vessels should acquire a Lake Use Pass that can be purchased close to the boat ramp, before embarking onto the waters. For those without their own boat, there are several outlets dotted around the lake's shores that offer boat and Jet Ski rentals.

Fishing enthusiasts camping with an RV at Lake Elsinore will be pleased to know that the lake boasts some of the best opportunities for bass fishing in Southern California. Its shallow waters, nutrient-rich rock beds and day after day of warm sunshine encourage a healthy population of fish to thrive here. Other than bass, species up for grabs include catfish, carp, and bluegill. Competitive fishers should try and coincide their trip with one of the many national fishing tournaments held at the lake such as the Extreme Bass Fishing Tournament held annually in June.

Swimming is also a popular way to spend time at Lake Elsinore. Dotted around its shores are several public swimming beaches perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot summers day. With a backdrop of the Ortega Mountains, some of the most beautiful swimming beaches can be found on the northern shores. As well as free parking, these beaches are equipped with shaded pagodas, picnic tables, fire rings, and even sand volleyball courts. Pets are allowed on the beach but should be kept on a leash at all times.

When you rent a camper near Lake Elsinore, you will also be able to keep a watch out for one of the 250 species of bird that nest here. Head to the Back Basin for some of the best bird-watching opportunities, or join a Bird Walk that leaves from the Levee entrance. Hosted by local bird enthusiasts, visitors will learn basic bird identification techniques as well as more about the local fauna that thrives here.

Camping at Lake Elsinore

When you rent a motorhome at Lake Elsinore, there is an abundance of RV parks and campgrounds to choose from. Situated on the northern shore of the lake is the ultra-modern Launch Pointe RV Park. Only built-in 2019, this 47-acre campground brings a new dimension to 21st-century camping.

Full hookup facilities, including complimentary electricity for your RV rental, and modern washroom facilities are just the tip of what is provided here. Each of the 204 RV sites has a picnic bench, concrete pad, and fence for those that enjoy privacy. The park itself functions around the use of electronic wristbands that allow campers to unlock gates, purchase drinks, and access WiFi!

For those that prefer old-school RV camping, consider staying at Crane Lakeside RV Resort. This intimate campsite offers a very limited number of pitches located along the waterfront. As well as full hookups for each of the sixteen sites, there are immaculate washroom facilities and even site-wide WiFi.

Exploring the Area

History buffs renting an RV, should visit the Southern California Railway Museum. Founded in 1956, the museum now houses a multitude of exhibitions that focus on the area’s railroading heritage. As well as taking a walk around the fascinating exhibits, visitors to the museum can take a ride on a classic trolley or historic passenger train. Although the train rides come with a small fee attached, admission to the museum itself is free!

From its humble beginnings as a fresh produce stand, Tom’s Farm has now grown to be a complex of tasty food stalls, family rides and fresh produce stands. Kids and adults can unearth fossils and gems at the Mining Company, take a ride on the 19th-century steam train or get to know the farm’s animals in the petting zoo. During weekends and holidays, there is also free live music concerts in the picnic area for a bit of added entertainment.

Any adrenaline seekers with a rental RV in Lake Elsinore should consider joining a zip line tour over the surrounding landscapes. With over 160-acres of mountainous terrain to be explored, visitors can opt for a novice or extreme course at one of the tour providers nearby. Whereas a novice course offers over 2,500 feet of stunning scenery, those looking for more of an adrenaline rush should choose an extreme course. Be prepared to hike for thirty minutes up to a steep ravine before zip-lining 200 feet above the ground.
