A lovely coastal town characterized by sandy stretches of beach overshadowed by craggy cliffs and rocky coastlines, Jenner, CA is a wonderful place to slow down and immerse yourself in a spectacular natural environment. Located where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean, and about 75 miles north of San Francisco, the area has a rich and diverse cultural history. Despite early settlements, this coastal village has a relatively small population, and it’s perhaps for that reason that Jenner has been able to remain charming and unspoiled. The Great Outdoors

Along the rocky shores of the Pacific, Sonoma Coast State Park is made up of several beaches along 17 miles of coastline. Stretches of sandy beaches overshadowed by rugged headlands and craggy coastline, Sonoma Coast State Park gives anglers, sunbathers, beachcombers, and picnickers access to the beach via several points along coastal Highway 1. The Russian River also begins in the Sonoma Coast State Park area. Should you rent a motorhome in Jenner and visit Sonoma Coast State Park, there are four camping areas within the park. Though there are no RV hookups, RV parking, as well as a dump station, are available.

If you’re interested in viewing some of the local wildlife, there’s no better place to do so than Goat Rock Beach. Part of the Sonoma Coast State Park, each spring and summer, the coasts are spotted with Pacific Harbor seals and their newborn pups. Between December and April, whale sittings are very common as these majestic creatures migrate from Alaska to Baja, California. Seabirds like gulls and sandpipers are also frequent guests of Goat Rock Beach. If you’re up for a little hiking, then check out the Kortum Trail, which offers stunning views of the land and sea. With gorgeous wildflowers, white-capped waves, and wildlife, Goat Rock Beach is a must-see when you book a camper rental in Jenner.

You might also want to check out Salt Point State Park while you’re in Jenner. Rocky promontories, forested hills, 360-degree views, gorgeous coves, pristine prairies, pygmy forests, and the perpetual sound of waves pounding against the shore — you can experience all of these natural wonders while visiting this California state park in Jenner. The park boasts six miles of rugged coastline and 20 miles of trails. Activities range from hiking to horseback riding and fishing to SCUBA diving. Camping is also available but there are no hookups or dump stations.

RV Parks

Wanting to stay within the Jenner city limits? Then you might consider Ocean Cove Store and Campground. Though there are no hookups in the 20-acre campground, the views more than make up for it. Directly on the Pacific Ocean, guests can catch spectacular sunsets from the comfort of their campsite. You can also pick a more secluded site a bit farther back from the bluffs nestled among the trees. There are approximately 100 campsites as well as picnic tables, fire pits, hot showers, potable water, chemical toilets, and a boat ramp.

Book an RV rental in Jenner and you can also stay at Casini Ranch Family Campground in nearby Duncans Mills. Nestled in the Russian River Valley, the 110-acre campground offers full and partial hookups as well as several amenities including soccer, horseshoe, and softball areas. Guests can also enjoy volleyball and basketball courts, fishing, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding on the Russian River. You can even interact with the horses, geese, and ducks that live at the ranch.

Exploring the City

Book an RV in Sonoma County and you’ll find yourself in the middle of California’s wine country. Fittingly, there are several wineries and vineyards in and around Jenner for you to taste and experience. Wineries can be found in the nearby towns of Bodega Bay and Guerneville, among others, and all offer a unique experience and distinct wines. You can check out one or several of California’s coastal wineries when you book a motorhome rental in Jenner.

Another point of interest in the city is Fort Ross State Historic Park. From 1812 to 1841, Fort Ross was a vibrant Russian-American Company settlement. The post was established as an agricultural base to provide supplies for Alaskan settlers. Home to California’s first windmills, shipbuilding, and scientific inquiry, the fort remained a multi-cultural settlement for several decades, housing Russians, Creoles, Californians, and Native Alaskans. Today, Fort Ross State Historic Park consists of a few original buildings as well as several reconstructed ones.

Another place you must visit when you rent an RV in Jenner is Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. There is something truly humbling about walking amidst a forest of ancient giant trees. These California coastal redwoods are the tallest living things in the world — the tallest one measured to date was 379.3 feet tall — and also among the oldest, capable of surviving for more than 2,000 years. Although 95 percent of the old-growth redwood forests have disappeared due to logging in the mid-19th century, the remnant is protected. At 805 acres, Armstrong Reserve has approximately six miles of nature trails to explore.

Jenner is a charming place to visit. The gateway to California’s wine country, located right on the Pacific Coast, and home to the mouth of the Russian River, here you can take some time to relax and unwind in the beauty of this small coastal California city.
