Between the central California cities of Modesto and Merced, you can find the small village of Delhi. People are unsure whether the town was named for the capital of India due to a similarly scorching climate or for the Delta Highline Canal, but they can agree that Delhi is a peaceful place to live or visit in the Central Valley.

The Golden State Highway runs through Delhi, stretching almost the entirety of California from south to north. The state capital of Sacramento is 100 miles north and easy to reach when you book an RV in Delhi, and you will find that the area is full of places to explore. Lush lakeside oases and fabulous mountain vistas await you when you rent an RV in Delhi and the potential for customizing your trip is the main selling point for this camping-friendly destination.

Outdoors Adventures

There are quite a few places to head off to when you book an RV rental in Delhi in the hopes of finding peaceful, nature sanctuaries, wildlife refuges, state parks, and national forests. Great Valley Grasslands State Park is perhaps the closest park to town and features the remnants of native grasslands that once covered the entire Central Valley. This protected area seeks to preserve the temperate savanna grasslands, a valuable biome with incredible eco-diversity. There are plenty of hiking trails, fishing ponds, meadows dotted with wildflowers, and wildlife to see, but unfortunately, there are no campgrounds at the park so you might need to find other accommodation nearby for your Delhi camper rental.

Henry W. Coe State Park has lovely, rolling hills with splendid hiking and mountain biking paths crisscrossing their ways through the ponderosa pine forests. There are several campsites to utilize while you search for a place to camp in your Delhi motorhome rental, and trails for horseback riding too. This scenic park is fantastic for birdwatching and the viewing of a bevy of other wildlife types.

If you feel like a change of scenery, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is one of the very best places you could possibly bring your Delhi RV rental by owner. This coastal masterpiece is one of the more famous places in California, celebrated for its iconic bridge on California Highway 1. The park is often called “little Yosemite” because of its astonishing beauty, its hidden waterfalls, and its deep canyons. Old hiking trails and covered footbridges traverse waterways and rocky gorges making for excellent hiking, and there several places to stay, including a large hotel lodge and a campground for people to utilize when they rent an RV. Speaking of “little Yosemite”, only a stunning national treasure such as Yosemite National Park could possibly make a park like Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park look like a sidekick. Yosemite is among the most visited national parks in the world with well over four and a half million campers, hikers, and rock climbers arriving each year. Rock climbing, in particular, is very popular at the park known for its craggy rock faces and epic geological structures. You can camp here at any of the multitudes of campgrounds found on site when you take a road trip east to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in your Delhi camper rental.

RV Parks to Visit

It is more difficult to not find a campground or RV park in California than it is to find one, which is fortunate for those renting an RV in the area. Nearby Turlock Lake State Recreation Area is a fabulous state-maintained area where guests may park their campers along the lakeshore. There are hiking paths, fishing areas, and beaches at this exquisite slice of nature.

Merced River RV Resort is located on the Merced River which is known for its awesome fishing. The park has a playground and pool for the whole family to remain entertained throughout the duration of their stay. Castle Air Museum RV Park is interesting because it includes a fascinating museum at an old airport facility. The campground is small but includes a courtesy pass to see the amazing airplanes on display at the museum on site.

Los Banos West/ I-5 KOA is farther away to the south, but a decent option if you want to see a different part of California. The campground has a pool of its own as well as a dog park, outdoor grilling, and a pavilion.

City Sightseeing

This might not be the news you were hoping for, but Delhi is merely a small village in the middle of California agricultural land so it is devoid of any real attractions aside from a few small-town diners and eateries. A ride north or south will bring you to Merced or Modesto, both of which have some pretty interesting things to keep you occupied after you rent an RV in Delhi.

Even Turlock, which borders Delhi to the north, has some places worth checking out while you find yourself looking for things to do. The Hilmar Cheese Company Visitor Center lets folks take tours of the factory to see the entire process of how cheese is made. The cheese shop is a fantastic place to buy souvenirs or treat yourself to some artisan cheese made on sight. Carnegie Art Center in Turlock is a registered non-profit housed in the old Carnegie Library built in 1916. This institution promotes the arts with performances, art shows, permanent art galleries, workshops, lectures, and more.

Turlock Historical Society Museum is a must if you feel you need some historical context and background about the area. You can fully enjoy the town after learning about its founding, the gold rush, the ancient indigenous people, and much more when you take a trip to this valuable, learning resource.
