Welcome to the unique city of Clearlake. Located in Lake Country, California, just north of Napa and east ofMendocino, Clearlake offers the perfect opportunity to explore the amazing area, discover new hobbies and sample the locally grown produce.

As the name suggests, the small city, home to around 15,000 people, takes its name from the fresh water lake it is located next to. Believed to be one of the oldest lakes in North America, some claim Clear Lake was formed over 500,000 years ago. The previous volcanic activity once found here has left the town with unique geological features and fertile soil thus providing an abundance of flora and fauna in the area.

The city’s location between these volcanic hills means it fosters its own microclimate, enjoying over 250 days of clear skies each year! With such idyllic weather, why not book an RV in Clearlake today!

Discover Clearlake

The Great Outdoors

The huge expanse of warm fresh water coupled with the idyllic weather makes Clear Lake an ideal vacation spot. These perks all add up for an incredible trip in your Clearlake motorhome rental.

Clear Lake forms part of the Clear Lake State Park and, having a surface area of 68 square miles, lends itself to a whole host of exciting water based activities. Dotted along the 100-mile shoreline are a variety of operators offering private boat hire as well as one off activities. If you fancy trying something new sailing, windsurfing or even water-skiing is on offer.

Not convinced on getting in the water, no problem, fishing is extremely popular here, with regular tournaments and derbies being held throughout the year. The lake claims to have the best bass fishing in America! A bold claim, but a believable one as the fertile volcanic soil can sustain a huge variety of species of fish. Expect to see catfish, rainbow trout and crappie, as well as the infamous Largemouth Bass. Fishing boats can be rented at various points around the lake – just be sure to abide by the strict rules which are in place to protect the lake!

For the walkers out there, there are a number of different trails leading through the park, showcasing different historical and cultural highlights. The Indian Nature Trail is one of the most popular. Being just half a mile long, it leads hikers through an interesting journey of how Native Americans used to cultivate and utilize the areas resources. For the more adventurous the trail leads onto to a longer trail that delves even deeper into the wonders of Clear Lake State Park.

If you imagined a more relaxing time during your stay in Clearlake, head east to Wilbur Hot Springs, a 1,800 acre nature reserve home to naturally occurring hot springs which average a temperature of 95°F as well as the Fountain of Life Geyser. You can spend the day relaxing in the springs before heading to the nearby town of Williams to relax by a fire.

RV Parks

When you rent a camper in Clearlake, CA you will need somewhere to park it for the night. Within the Clear Lake State Park itself there are four campsites to choose from, all of which offer basic amenities with no electrical or water hookups (note that the maximum size trailer allowed is 25 ft).

The only difference between campsites are the locations; all offer similar size pitches with allocated spaces for a fire pit, a table and a food storage box as well as having nearby paid facilities for showers and toilets. Kelsey Creek is the only site with lakeside pitches and is ideal for those who enjoy fishing and water-based activities. Lower Bay View Campsite is a short walk away from the lake, but more suitable for those looking to enjoy a leisurely swim. The remaining two sites, Upper Bay view and Cole Creek are nestled further into the fauna with great access to walking trails and panoramic views of the city and lake.

During peak season these sites tend to fill up fast! Don’t worry though, if you miss out on a spot head up north to Lakeport, or south to Lower Lake both of which have plenty of options to park your RV.

Willow Point RV and Campground in Lakeport offers 64 sites featuring picnic tables, BBQ/grills, and full hookups for your luxury Clearlake travel trailer rental. Hop out onto the lake and jet ski, fish or simply relax in your boat while cruising around the lake.

Exploring the city

Although the tourism industry here is centred mainly on the lake itself, your Clearlake camper rental provides a great way to get to know the cities as you venture out into the great outdoors.

Due to the early volcanic activity in the area, the fertile soil and temperate weather makes for the perfect environment to produce fruity Sauvignon Blanc and punchy Cabernet Sauvignon wines. At last count, there were over 35 wineries covering 9000 acres, meaning you can easily make a whole day out of exploring the regions produce. Keep a lookout for tour operators so you can make the most out of the free tastings!

For the astronomy buffs, Clear Lake lives up to its name and provides some of the cleanest air in the country allowing for clear views of the night sky all year round. Try Taylors Observatory if you want to learn more! It is an exciting opportunity whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic adventure or a family trying to find an activity to entertain everyone.

If it’s a taste of the warm California sunshine you are seeking, consider a travel trailer rental in Clearlake. Enjoy the local cuisine, watch a sunset, and take in the beautiful landscape. Rent an RV in Clearlake, CA and explore the Golden State!
