It’s conveniently located on Interstate 10, which means that when you choose a camper rental in Calimesa, it won’t take long to drive into downtown Los Angeles.

Discover Calimesa

The Great Outdoors

The Inland Empire has tons of great places for outdoor recreation, which is why getting a motorhome rental in Calimesa is so perfect for those that enjoy spending time in nature. Not far from Calimesa is Big Bear Lake, a high alpine lake nestled into the San Bernardino Mountains. It’s a popular year-round resort with all sorts of activities like mountain biking and hiking, but in the winter is when it really shines, with the nearby ski resort becoming a playground for skiers and snowboarders.

One of the best day trips from Calimesa is to the Salton Sea, which was accidentally created in the early 20th century when civil engineers diverted water from the Colorado River into a low-lying basin. Developers later attempted to turn this accident into a profitable tourist resort, with mixed results. Today, the sea is an excellent destination for hikers and photographers seeking an oasis in the desert.

No trip to the Inland Empire would be complete without visiting Joshua Tree National Park and the spiny trees that lend their name to it. The park is one of the most well-preserved wildernesses in the Mojave Desert region making it a popular hiking spot with dozens of great trails radiating out through its dusty landscapes. Joshua Tree is also a popular stargazing location as the nearby mountains block much of the light pollution from Los Angeles’s urban sprawl.

However, if driving out to the mountains or into the desert doesn’t sound appealing to you, consider spending a day at Yucaipa Regional Park, just a short drive away from Calimesa. Here you’ll find a few different lakes that are perfect for swimming, fishing, or just enjoying the stunning views of the San Bernardino Mountains.

The Cherry Valley city recreation department runs the park, so it’s not as big on amenities as some of the other parks in the area, but its location adjacent to Noble Creek Park makes it a favorite among nature lovers.

For a quieter experience outside the city limits consider staying at Country Hills RV Park just a little way down Interstate 10 from Calimesa. As with the other parks, it has full hookups, but also laundry facilities, a playground, and a spa. If you were thinking about visiting attractions south of Calimesa like the Salton Sea region, this could be a place to consider.
