Azusa is a medium-sized town on the eastern edge of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, just north of Covina and west of Glendora. It lies at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, which provide a stunning backdrop for this quaint town on the edge of the Los Angeles metro. Book an RV in Azura to see what it has to offer.
When you rent an RV in Azura, California, you have the freedom to go anywhere you want – adventures in the desert, excursions to the mountains, or even day trips to the nearby megacity of Los Angeles. However, you should be aware that the traffic here could be rather difficult to navigate with a large vehicle. It’s best if you leave your RV rental back at the park whenever possible and take the bus or train into the city.
Being at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, Azusa is full of great places to get some exercise and outdoor recreation. A climb up nearby Mount Baldy is practically a right of passage for those living in the Azusa area. A trip up the mountain is pretty grueling though, lasting all day and ascending several thousand feet to reach the summit. For an easier hiking experience, check out the Fish Canyon Trail,
When you rent an RV in this part of California, it’s imperative that you make a day trip to Joshua Tree National Park. The park is one of the crown jewels of Southern California wildernesses, with some of the most unique landscapes in the country. The namesake trees and otherworldly rock formations will have you feeling like you’re hiking on another planet.
For something closer to home though, check out Azusa River Wilderness Park just north of town. The miniature wilderness has a few hiking trails that are enough for a short day hike, however, you’ll have to head a few miles down the road to the San Gabriel Reservoir if you want to go for a swim or do some fishing.
The Camp Williams Resort is a place to take your Azusa RV rental if you want to stay somewhere off the beaten path and in the middle of nature. At the base of Mount Baldy, this little park has full hookups, a dump station, and a swimming pool. Another place to camp with your motorhome rental near Azusa is at Los Angeles/Pomona/ Fairplex KOA a few miles down the road in Pomona. Like many KOA parks, it has got a lot of amenities including full RV hookups, a swimming pool, and a gym. It’s also a great place to stay if you want to meet fellow RV travelers as they usually have a few different events going on during the week.
Another option for your Azusa camper rental is the Bonita Ranch RV Campground. It’s a little bit farther away from town but has most of the amenities of the other parks and is also close to some great outdoor recreation, including a hike to nearby Bonita Falls.
The nearest Walmart to Azusa can be found not too far away in the town of Covina, but you’ll definitely need to ask the manager for permission to camp there as many of the company’s stores in California do not permit overnight parking. If you need to fuel up your travel trailer rental in Azusa, the best places to do it will be located along Interstate 210. The larger fuel bays at these truck stops will be easier to maneuver with your big rig and are more likely to have dump stations.
When planning a trip with an RV rental in Azusa, budget some time to be spent in town rather than just using it as a jumping off point for a Los Angeles vacation.
If you’re hoping to get some culture while in Azusa, plan for a night out at the Haugh Performing Arts Center. This small but very active playhouse puts on several live performances each month ranging from the classics to more contemporary works. There’s also the Covina Center for the Performing Arts, which frequently host tribute bands of some of music’s most popular acts. However, if you’re looking for retail therapy, head down to nearby Covina where there are considerably more shops and malls to browse through.
If you’re searching for something a little more offbeat, visit the so-called Bridge to Nowhere, which was originally intended to connect the San Gabriel Valley with the town of Wrightwood. While construction on the bridge was completed, the intended road was not, as a flood wiped it out in the late 1930s. It now serves as a pedestrian bridge to trails in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness and as a popular bungee jumping location. Another slightly strange sight is the Rubel Castle in Glendora, which consists of a caboose, clocktower, drawbridge, an empty graveyard, and a lot of antiques. It’s an incredibly unique experience and the guided tour will provide you with a headful of information about Southern California’s past.
