Aromas is set in a beautiful area of Central California off Highway 101, sharing the borders of Monterey County to the west and San Benito County to the east. Although it feels pleasantly remote, this gem is close to everything. Aromas was originally known as Sand Cut, named from the Southern Pacific Railroad tunnel that was constructed nearby in the 1870s. The community changed its name to Aromas in the early 1900s. Set in a rural valley with lush farmland, it still has the nostalgia of old California while continuing to be a thriving center for cattle ranches and agricultural businesses.

Aromas is a great place to experience small-town hospitality with scenic attractions close at hand. The town hosts a range of cultural events, including concerts, dances and art festivals, mostly located near the town center at the Aromas Community Grange. The Great Outdoors

The region surrounding Aromas offers endless possibilities for adventure. Pinnacles National Park is a spectacular place in San Benito County for fantastic wildlife viewing, miles of hiking trails and rock climbing routes, or an impromptu picnic at the visitor center. Just south of San Juan Bautista off of Highway 156 is Fremont Peak State Park, in the grasslands of the Gavilan Range peaks. Traverse the park to discover pine and oak woodlands and majestic views of Monterey Bay, San Benito Valley, Salinas Valley, and the Santa Lucia Mountains east of Big Sur.

Nearby Monterey Bay is a fantastic place to rent a kayak or go on a whale-watching excursion in Pacific Ocean waters. Unwind by casting a line with some fresh and saltwater fishing or spend a day at the Pebble Beach golf course. Less than a mile away from Aromas is Santa Cruz County. Venture 14 miles south of Hollister to the San Benito RV & Camping Resort. At the resort, you are able to rent a bike, take a dip in the pool, or choose from live entertainment and a variety of planned activities.

If you’d like to head more towards the coastline, there are many sites close to the water that are available to choose from. One place to consider is the Santa Cruz/ Monterey Bay KOA, located in Watsonville. This site provides full hookups for your RV, WiFi, and cable. Between the pool, outdoor cinema, dog park there’s no shortage of kid and pet-friendly options available here.

Fremont Peak State Park has a handful of RV sites should you prefer to stay further inland and make nature your base camp, and are prepared for only basic amenities. There are no hookups for your RV at the park’s Oak Point and Valley View Campgrounds, but the hiking and biking trails and gorgeous vistas of Monterey Bay make up for it. Fremont Peak is a perfect location for stargazing at the Fremont Peak Observatory.

Should you need a quick overnight stay, consider truck stops, Walmart, or larger grocery stores. There are several Walmarts within 30 miles of town and camping may be allowed at these locations. Just check with a manager for permission before parking for the evening. Being located near Salinas and Monterey, RV rental near Aromas is common, therefore, you should be able to find great amenities.
