Arnold is a quaint town, 4000ft above sea level, in the mountains of Calaveras County. The town is aptly named after Bob and Bernice Arnold who opened the Ebbetts Pass Inn in 1927 to provide accommodation for those traveling along the Ebbetts Bypass. The Ebbetts Pass National Byway provides the most scenic way to access Arnold. Navigating its way over the Sierra Nevada mountain range it is the best way to explore the mountains in your Arnold RV rental.

Arnold’s exceptional location between Stanislaus National Forest and El Dorado Forest makes it a haven for anyone wanting to discover some of the country’s largest trees. More specifically, the town of Arnold is known for the very first discovery of the giant sequoia, a colossal member of the redwood family. After the discovery of these giants, logging quickly became the main industry in the 1800’s. Although no longer operational, there is a lot of logging memorabilia dotted around town that celebrates the town's industrial past.

The Great Outdoors

An Arnold camper rental provides you access to beautiful mountains. This town boasts countless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors all year round; a mountain biking haven in the summer come ski slope in the winter. These perks all add up for an incredible trip in your Arnold travel trailer rental at any time of the year!

Most visitors discover Arnold while visiting the well-known Calaveras Big Trees State Park, the exact location where the giant sequoia trees were first discovered. The hiking system in this park navigates through and around these spectacular giants, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with them. The North Grove Trail is accessible all year round and can be classified as beginner’s level of difficulty. Being just over one mile long, it is the most popular walk so expect lots of other visitors! If you are looking for a lesser-visited spot amongst the trees, try the River Canyon Trail. It is for the experienced hikers only and not for the faint-hearted, but hikers will be rewarded with the forest to themselves. A difficulty level harder still, the Arnold Rim Trail, at 17 miles long, is perfect for anyone who enjoys the thrill of mountain biking! Bring your own bike or rent one from one of the outlets in the main town.

White Pines Lake, just a couple of miles out of Arnold, is perfect for a day trip. With its quiet sandy beaches, it is perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful day out. There are plenty of water-based activities on offer such as kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing should you wish to get a bit more active!

RV Parks

When youbook an RV in Arnold, you will find a few different options for parking up your RV for the night.

Golden Pines Campground offers beautiful sites located among the beautiful trees. The sites are of varied size to accommodate any vehicle with full hook-ups, ideal for your Arnold motorhome rental. Bookings should be for a minimum of three nights, but this shouldn’t be a problem as there is so much to do in the area!

If you’re looking for something that offers shorter stays, consider Calaveras Big Trees Campground, which really does live up to its name. With sites dotted underneath the large Jeffrey pines in the forest, you have access to the giants right on your doorstep. Even more, many of the walking trails, popular in the Calaveras Big Tree State Park, are accessible without having to drive anywhere! No reservations are necessary and the site has all of the convenience facilities that you could wish for.

Exploring the City

The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum, located at the far end of White Pines Lake, celebrates the area's logging history. The creative displays make for an interesting morning learning about the history of the industry and the people who lived and worked here during that time.

For those who wish to take a more active part in learning about the logging industry, Arnold celebrates its historical past in another, very unique way. The Logging Jamboree is an annual event that takes place each Labor Day weekend at the museum. Activities are based around traditional logging techniques and everyone is encouraged to take part. Amateurs can sign up to try their hand at log bucking, axe throwing and much more!

Arnold uses its scenic location within the giant sequoias to host a number of other festivals throughout the year, all of which are well worth visiting! Throughout the summer months expect free concerts, stargazing classes, ranger programs and even photography classes to keep you busy during your RV adventure. Occurring in the winter, the most popular event is their Winter Wonderland giving visitors the chance to ride on a horse-drawn wagon through the forest. Be sure to get those reservations in advance as tickets sell out quickly!

With such close proximity to Sacramento, Arnold is a conveniently located scenic weekend break for those wishing to get away. Enjoy the unique forests, the local produce on offer and the range of festivals all year round. Rent an RV in Arnold, CA and explore The Golden State!
