Blytheville is a city in Mississippi County, Arkansas that was founded in 1879. Chicago's Great Fire of 1871 spurred a need for large amounts of lumber and Blytheville's early success and development (and its notoriety) grew out of this; the expansion of sawmills brought rowdy workers and saloons to the city during the 1880s and 1890s. As the forests were cleared, cotton farming became a secondary industry and was closely followed by soybeans and rice, which have become important crops for the city. Today, farming is still important but has become more commercialized, and the steel industry has become a major employer (along with other industrial businesses). The city has produced a long list of celebrities in sports and entertainment.

RV rentals in Mississippi County are your ticket to seeing this city and county up close and in person. While you're here, consider checking out some other communities that are a short distance away. Paragould was named by a group of locals citizens after two competing railroad tycoons by combining their names, JW Paramore and Jay Gould; it is believed that no other city in the world has this name. Rumor suggests that Gould was so upset about his name being placed second that he refused to list the city on his railroad schedules. Walnut Ridge has a monument, plaza, and music festival that was inspired by a visit by the Beatles (who did not actually visit but had a stopover while waiting for a connecting flight). Marked Tree was named after a tree that marked a spot where the local Indians could cross the river without having to paddle 12 miles upstream. Marion was first settled as Louisiana, New Spain from 1764 to 1803, and then as Louisiana, New France from 1803 to 1896, when it was incorporated under its current name. Your Blytheville travel trailer rental is your introduction to this historic area and its culture.

The Great Outdoors

Big Lake Wildlife Management Area is owned and managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department despite its presence in the state of Arkansas. It can be accessed from two separate locations by county roads; roughly three-quarters of the area is open to public recreation, and the area is interrupted in places by sects of privately owned land. The terrain consists of poorly drained clay soils and bottomland mature hardwood timber habitat; native wildlife includes white-tailed deer, feral hogs, and armadillos, just to name a few, making it a great destination for nature viewing and photography. Several hundreds of plant species have been identified within the management area.

Wapanocca National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1961 and consists of a lake surrounded by old-growth bald cypress forest. The forest remains flooded year-round creating a high-quality habitat for wintering waterfowl and breeding forest birds. Neotropical songbirds can also be observed here as they migrate to and from Central and South America, and the park is an island of undisturbed nature surrounded by agriculture. The refuge has a visitor center with exhibits and staff who offer educational programs and are happy to answer questions. Visitors can enjoy photography and wildlife viewing; fishing and hunting are allowed with permits.

Singer Forest Natural Heritage Area is a bottomland forest and overflow swamp that represents the forested wetlands that were once common but have been almost completely erased by agriculture. Tree stands in the area have little to no undergrowth, making hiking the area possible without established trails (although a compass and some experience are suggested). Hunting is allowed. Keep your Blytheville camper rental nearby, and you can use it as a viewing blind while enjoying the comforts of home.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds near Blytheville. Your Blytheville RV trailer rental is a perfect match for any of them.

Grizzly's RV Park is a family owned and operated RV campground with restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and paved access roads. Sites have lots of tree canopy to provide shade, and also electrical outlets, concrete pads, and pull-through access; they can be rented by the day, week, or month.

Exploring The City

Those seeking to understand the culture better should begin by visiting a local theater which evokes memories of an iconic 1950's movie theater right down to the buttered popcorn (the building is actually much older); guests can enjoy live theater, movies, and other attractions. Another cultural must-see is a local bookstore that has a distinct but varied selection of books from many genres. Some of the books, including those by John Grisham, have been autographed by their authors. There is also a museum with an interesting range of artifacts. Remember to take your Blytheville motorhome rental for a spin on the local highways; it's one of the perks that makes RV vacations so unique.

Restaurants in Blytheville are moderately priced, so eating here certainly won't break the wallet, and the range of choices is good. One bakery restaurant has an open dining area and a dessert display case where you can actually see what you're buying. It is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunches, and has an extensive menu, plus all-day breakfast. Eat in or grab some takeout and enjoy your meal back at your Blytheville luxury RV rental under an open sky.
