Miami is a town in Gila County, Arizona, situated on the Pinal Mountain's northeastern slope. It is surrounded to the north, west, and south by the Tonto National Forest. Miami's economy has been and is largely dependent on mining; the town began in 1911 with the opening of a copper mine. The mine was the first to use several of the new mining technologies of its time and continued this practice in 1974 and 1992 in response to the passing of the Clean Air Act. Mining for copper was discontinued in 2015. Miami is home to several noticeable people in the fields of entertainment, sports, and politics; the town is also notable for its five Luten bridges which were considered state of the art at the time of their construction.

RV rentals in Gila County are well suited for their purpose and plentiful. There are some other towns that visitors should consider exploring. Fort Thomas' climate is semi-arid to arid, with very hot summers, mild days, and cold nights in winter, and very little rainfall. Florence is the site of one of the most famous Old Southwest gunfights (in 1888). Apache Junction was the site of a number of Hollywood movie sets that are now displayed in the Superstition Mountain Museum. Gilbert's reputation has evolved from “The Hay Shipping Capital of the World” to “Phoenix's Coolest Suburb”. Scottsdale's slogan is “The West's Most Western Town”; its downtown has been described as “A desert version of Miami's South Beach” by the New York Times. Your Miami travel trailer rental is your invitation to discover all of this and more.

The Great Outdoors

San Tan Mountain Regional Park is a multi-use protected area that was established several decades ago. It is a popular region for hiking, biking, and horseback riding; it is also a distinct historical, cultural, and biological resource. The park's visitors center has restrooms and drinking water, and programs and activities that educate the public. Bring along your Miami RV trailer rental and you can leave your souvenirs inside instead of carting them around, and return for a coffee and some relaxation when your activity has concluded.

Pinal Peak is a semi-developed recreational area in the Tonto National Forest; it is maintained by the United States Forest Service and has several dirt roads and hiking trails that are open to the public. The peak has an elevation of 7,848 feet above sea level.

Mount Turnbull is a largely unknown peak in the Santa Teresa Mountains. Its elevation is 5,800 feet above sea level. It is located on the San Carlos Indian Reservation, where guests are allowed to use the peak for recreational purposes, but permits are required.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds within a reasonable distance of Miami, AZ, but some of them may have long-term or permanent rentals or mobile homes. Your Miami RV rental is all you will need to make any of them into your temporary home.

Gila County RV Park & Batting Range is an RV campground within walking distance of Globe's historic downtown district. The park has restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and wifi. Some sites have full hookups and there is a dump station for emptying your tanks. There are shaded picnic tables, a concession stand, and an on-site convenience store. There are a few grass sites for tent camping.

Arizonian RV Resort is a 55+ RV campground located in the Sonoran Desert. It has a pool and spa, two recreation halls, and laundry facilities. On-site activities include bocce ball and pickleball, horseshoes, and shuffleboard, planned social activities, and more. Some sites have full hookups and rental is by the day, week, month or longer term.

Exploring The City

There is an abundance of things to do in Miami, AZ, and a good place to start could be a walking tour of the town and its historical buildings and architecture. One of the Catholic churches, more than 100 years old, has been restored and is a sight to see. A local pueblo museum is also a historical park and historic landmark. The Salt River Canyon Scenic Drive is the perfect place to take your Miami motorhome rental for a spin, which honestly is why you rented it (or should be why) to begin with.

At some point, though, you will have to put aside the fun and think more seriously about where to dine (decisions, decisions). There are a few commercial chain restaurants on hand to please the kids, but most of the establishments are locally owned and operated, which spells fresh, not frozen, ingredients. One of the Mexican venues is family run and has been in the family for generations; it has indoor and patio seating. A local rib joint has everything you would expect, right down to the cornbread, and some you might not be as familiar with, like okra and collard greens. The final touch is the jazz music playing in the background, which could become live music if you ask nicely. You might wind up taking some of your meal home to your Miami camper rental but that is what vacations should be, late night snacks, doggy bag lunches, and no guilt.
