Originally home to the Apache Indians, Globe, Arizona is a city with a rich heritage. The town got on the radar of Spanish conquistadors during the 1820s, when they learned about the mineral deposits located in and around the Pinal Mountains. Hoping to strike it rich, various parties continued visiting the area, to the irritation of the Apaches. The Apaches were soon dispatched and Globe was founded In 1875 as a mining camp. Though the origins of the town’s name are uncertain, it is said that the city got its name from a globe-shaped piece of pure silver that was found nearby. Today, copper mining and ranching make up Globe’s economic base.

But just be forewarned that both trails to the top are rated extremely difficult.

If you seemed to have gotten sucked into Phoenix’s allure, it's totally understandable and while you're here, there's one more place to visit: Papago Park. Just a few miles outside downtown Phoenix, Papago Park is a stunning place to hike, with red butte formations, stocked fishing lagoons, and a golf course. Exploring the City

Did you know that Globe is the eastern terminus of the Apache Trail? Named after the Apache Indians who once traversed on the same route, Apache Trail, commonly known as AZ 88, is a 40-mile corridor that links Apache Junction with Theodore Roosevelt Lake. The mostly unpaved trail winds through marvelous scenery of twisted igneous mountains covered with thick Ferocactus and saguaro forests. Apache Trail also passes around several deep blue lakes. Though driving an RV on Apache Trail is not recommended, it’s definitely worth unhitching the trailer and taking a cruise down when you visit Globe.

Interested in learning more about the history of the area? Then check out Besh-Ba-Gowah Museum. The archaeological park is home to a 200-room prehistoric Salado masonry pueblo overlooking Pinal Creek. Visitors can also check out the botanical garden, the gift shop, and museum, which houses a large collection of Salado pottery and artifacts.
